Rangers boss Steven Gerrard goes viral with innocuous press conference comment

You’ve got to be very careful about how you word things on social media these days.Misunderstandings happen all the time on these platforms, but when you’re tweeting on behalf of a massive sports team it’s important to get everything right.Watch Rangers Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Unfortunately for Rangers, they suffered a bit of a social media gaffe this week, as Steven Gerrard’s out of context press conference quote went viral.

“We can hurt Young Boys.â€

Without knowing the context behind it, you could be forgiven for thinking Gerrard had arranged for his team to go around Glasgow beating people up as a team-bonding exercise.

Fortunately, that isn’t the case, or at least we hope not.

Gerrard was, of course, talking about his team’s Europa League clash with the Swiss outfit Young Boys.

It’s nothing more than an unfortunate misunderstanding, but thatÂdidn’t stop the tweet from getting over 20,000 likes and more than 6,000 retweets

Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk provides injury update on Mo Salah

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Injury News series, which considers the impact of the latest updates on players’ fitness.

Liverpool’s Mo Salah may overcome a knock he picked up against Leicester to be fit in time for the visit to Manchester United, with two weeks off thanks to the international break.

What’s the latest?

Teammate Virgil van Dijk told Sky Sports, as reported by The Express, that the Egyptian’s injury isn’t a major concern, even though it led to him being substituted in the 92nd minute against Leicester.

Despite his absence, the Reds managed to find a way to breakdown the Foxes in the remaining minutes to maintain their 100% league record, but Jurgen Klopp and the squad will no doubt be hoping that Salah is available moving forward.

Re-live the moment Sadio Mane robbed Leicester City of a point at Anfield through the eyes of the Foxes fans in the video below…

Van Dijk said: “I think he should be not too bad. The good thing he has plenty of time to recover.

“He’ll probably get time to recover as well. So I’m not concerned that he’s not going to be ready for United away.”

Blessing in disguise

Salah missing for any period of time would be a big blow to Liverpool.

Although the recent return of the previously injured Divock Origi is a bonus for the Reds, his goalscoring record does not compare to the 27-year-old and Klopp will need his best players available if he is to continue the current winning streak.

Manchester United may be in poor form with only nine points from eight league games but they often raise their game against the Anfield outfit and have only lost to them at Old Trafford five times in 23 matches since the start of the Millennium.

Last year was an example of how the Red Devils could frustrate Liverpool, earning a 0-0 draw which derailed their title efforts – and that was with Salah in the side.

As van Dijk says, a two-week period of rest should do the 27-year-old the world of good and his injury could prove to be a silver lining, as it avoids him travelling to Botswana to play for Egypt, thus preventing the build-up of fatigue.

That could allow him to come back fit and firing, and an in-form Salah is a danger to any Premier League side.

Charlton fans react after Joe Aribo scores for Nigeria against Brazil

Some Charlton fans have taken to Twitter to react after they heard that former player Joe Aribo had netted for Nigeria against Brazil.

The 23-year-old came through the Charlton academy and played a key role in the Addicks’ promotion from League One last season, scoring nine league goals from midfield and also grabbing five assists.

The goalscoring midfielder also netted in the playoff semi-finals against Doncaster – his strike in the first leg was a vital one as Lee Bowyer’s men won the tie by two goals to one.

Aribo departed at the end of last term and joined Scottish giants Rangers for £300k due to cross-border transfer rules, where he has since scored in Europe for the Gers and also has two goals in his only two games for Nigeria.

After his impressive strike against one of the best nations in the world, a number of Charlton fans began to chat about their former player on Twitter.

Let’s take a look at some of the Twitter reaction…

West Ham’s academy get a lesson in teamwork from Carlton Cole

The former Hammers striker is now an academy coach at the London club, and it seems as if he’s teaching the youngsters the right mentality.

Cole’s message is loud and clear, the player he’s been working with have been learning to play together as a team rather than as individuals, and we’ll let him off for the massively over-used cliche, since he is moulding the next generation of Irons talent after all.

Liverpool fans react to Andy Robertson fitness boost

Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson has said that he should be fit enough to face Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday.

The Scotland captain was taken off just past the hour mark during the 4-1 win against Genk on Wednesday for precautionary reasons after picking up a knock. He was replaced by Joe Gomez who made some of his early appearances for Liverpool on the left side of the defence.

Robertson has become an integral part of manager Jurgen Klopp’s setup on Merseyside after his £8m move from Hull City in 2017.

He has created three assists in the Premier League this season, as well as picking up two man of the match awards. The 25-year-old also scored in the Champions League against RB Salzburg during the Reds’ 4-3 victory.

The Athletic’s James Pearce reported that Robertson was “all good” after the match and Klopp confirmed this during his post-match interview against Genk.

Fans were delighted with the return of the Scotsman to the starting line-up and made their feelings clear on social media.

Leeds fans fume as Phil Hay’s tweet confirms Patrick Bamford will start

Leeds United fans have had their worst nightmares confirmed as Phil Hay tweeted that Marcelo Bielsa intends to start Patrick Bamford against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

There has been a huge campaign from supporters and pundits alike for Eddie Nketiah to replace Bamford in the Whites’ starting XI, but their prayers haven’t been answered.

Of course, the fanbase have been moaning on Twitter after this latest development.

You can completely understand why the supporters are fuming with Hay’s update.

Bamford hasn’t scored in any of his last eight games for the Whites, while Nketiah has netted every 73.3 minutes in the Championship so far this term.

Nketiah scored on Tuesday as Leeds drew with Preston, and it seemed as if Bielsa couldn’t continue ignoring the Arsenal loanee, but he’s defied belief by admitting that his selection of striker won’t change.

It remains to be seen how Bamford gets on against Sheffield Wednesday this weekend, but fans aren’t happy with the fact that he’s going to be starting at Hillsborough.

Here’s what Leeds fans have been saying on Twitter…

Aston Villa’s Matt Targett has totally transformed the team on the left flank

This article is part of Football FanCast’s The Chalkboard series, which provides a tactical insight into teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

Aston Villa face a trip to Manchester this weekend as the Premier League’s reigning champions play host at the Etihad Stadium.

You’d imagine this is their toughest test since opening the season at the Champions League finalists Tottenham, but having picked up back-to-back victories for the first time this campaign, they’ll have every bit of confidence in snatching a result.

After all, Wolves did manage to before the international break.

After smashing five past Norwich City, Dean Smith’s side saw off Brighton & Hove Albion thanks to late heroics from Matt Targett.

The summer arrival was found with a deft ball from captain Jack Grealish in the 94th minute before he managed to slot home from an acute angle.

On the Chalkboard

Targett has been an influential player on the left-flank since making his long-awaited debut against Burnley.

In his three Premier League appearances, the 24-year-old has improved game-by-game in terms of rating, and even that hasn’t dipped below 7.01, per WhoScored.

Basically, Villa are unbeaten when Targett is in the starting line up.

His presence offers the west Midlanders an attacking threat, much more so than Neil Taylor, and this shift in attitude has contributed hugely to their upturn in form.

Aston Villa’s summer signings’ performances so far this season are rated in the video below…

Targett is averaging 2.3 key passes and 0.3 dribbles per game compared to the Welshman’s 0.1 and 0 respectively – that’s quite the contrast.

Even defensively, the former Southampton is offering more with 2.3 interceptions and three clearances per match, via WhoScored.

When taking a look at the previous matches of the pair, the contrasting playing styles between both of them is even more apparent, below are the heatmaps from the Brighton and Arsenal games – the latter being the last game in which Taylor started.

The 30-year-old’s focal point is well behind the halfway line (right image), whereas Targett has a heavily intensive area in the opposition’s half (left image).

This is far more than Taylor does, and he was playing against ten men in that match for the best part of an hour.

Yes, really. That’s how defensive-minded he is.

This is only emphasised when looking at their average playing position, which can be seen below for the same fixtures, via WhoScored.

Targett’s average position is bang on the halfway line (left image), with the Welshman’s being much further back.

With the £9m-rated man being able to bomb forward, it has allowed Grealish a chance to thrive in the final third as he can cut inside knowing the 24-year-old is going to be there out wide.

Their partnership should continue to flourish, and that will give Villa the best chance of success in attack – in the last two matches alone they’ve netted seven goals.

Whereas in their previous seven matches before that, Smith’s side only scored eight.

Man Utd’s Scott McTominay must win powerhouse clash against Philip Billing

This article is part of Football FanCast’s The Chalkboard series, which provides a tactical insight into teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

Having really broken through during Jose Mourinho’s tenure as Manchester United manager, Scott McTominay has come on leaps and bounds in terms of his ability and role in the first-team.

The Scotland international played 31 times over the course of the Portuguese man’s reign, before really establishing himself as a key part of the current United set-up under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. This season alone, the 22-year-old has played 13 times, including featuring in every single Premier League game.

He will no doubt be hoping to continue that run when the Red Devils travel to face Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth in the Saturday lunch-time kick-off, and the academy product will be coming up against a man-mountain like himself in Philip Billing.

The battle in midfield is always one of the key contests of any footballing clash, and when McTominay and Billing collide at the weekend, it could prove to be the decisive match-up in terms of who comes away with the win.

On the chalkboard

At 6 foot 4, McTominay is one of the most physically dominant midfielders in the Premier League, and he invariably casts a literal shadow over his opponents. But on Saturday, he will experience the rare feeling of not being the tallest man in the middle of the park, when he faces off against the 6 foot 6 Billing.

The Dane arrived at Bournemouth from Huddersfield, and has quickly established himself as a key component of Howe’s side. He has averaged an impressive 2.3 tackles and 2.6 interceptions per game in the Premier League, and his long, rangy frame helps him cover the ground in imposing fashion.

Similarly, McTominay has been defensively strong this season, and in a standout performance against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, made an incredible five tackles, five interceptions and eight duels won.

If McTominay can overpower his midfield counterpart, and continue his fine recent form, then United stand an excellent chance of muzzling Bournemouth on Saturday. In the land of the giants, the Red Devils will need their 22-year-old to dominate the occasion.

Arsenal fans rave over Joe Willock following Goal of the Month award

Although October was far from a successful month for Unai Emery’s Arsenal side, with the Gunners securing just one Premier League victory, the announcement of the club’s goal of the month has led to these fans heaping considerable praise on the recipient.

Joe Willock’s strike from distance against Liverpool – a game that Arsenal tied 5-5 before losing on penalties – took the score to 5-4 before a late Divock Origi strike gave the Reds their equaliser.

The 20-year-old’s goal was his fourth of the season in all competitions, but there can be no doubting that the quality of the finish makes this the academy graduate’s most impressive strike in the current campaign.

After a video was released by Arsenal’s twitter account, these fans have been stating their appreciation towards Willock. Here are some of the best reactions following the official announcement of the club’s goal of the month for October.

Everton fans comment on Kurt Zouma’s mazy run in European clash

Kurt Zouma spent the 2018/19 campaign on loan at Everton before returning to parent club Chelsea over the summer.

The Frenchman has been a regular for the Blues this season, making 17 appearances in all competitions, including the full 90 minutes against Ajax on Tuesday night.

Zouma was part of a defence that shipped four goals against the Dutch champions, who had two players sent off in what was an incredible game of football.

Wayne Rooney puts himself forward for the Everton job in the video below…

There was a standout moment for the 25-year-old at Stamford Bridge, though, when he decided to embark on a quite wonderful run before firing over the crossbar.

The final effort was not exactly fantastic, but it was excellent work from Zouma as he powered through the middle of the park.

A number of Everton fans took to social media to comment on the central defender’s rush of blood to the head, and a selection of the Twitter reaction is available to view below:
