Arsenal fans desperate to get deal for Thomas Lemar done

As reported by The Telegraph, Arsenal are struggling in their attempts to get a deal done for Monaco midfielder Thomas Lemar, but haven’t yet given up on landing his signature.

Lemar was a stand-out for Monaco last season, destroying Ligue 1 opposition from the left wing and forcing his way into the France national team.

With the signing of Alexandre Lacazette already complete, the Gunners have shown they are not afraid to splash the cash this summer and look destined to bid beyond the £45m that was reportedly rejected by Monaco.

With Alexis Sanchez’s situation at the club still not sorted out, Arsene Wenger could do with another creative attacking option on the left hand side and Lemar would appear to fit the bill.

Fans are certainly eager to get the deal over the line, with some even lamenting the fact the deal isn’t already done.

They took to Twitter to discuss their desire to sign the Frenchman…

In Focus: Vermaelen is a strange option for Everton, but could work short-term

Barcelona are reportedly open to sending defender Thomas Vermaelen to Everton on a loan deal, according to Mundo Deportivo.

What’s the story?

The Toffees have been one of the busiest Premier League clubs in the transfer window this summer, bringing in seven new players and spending more than £100m.

Now, Mundo Deportivo has suggested that the Merseyside outfit have turned their attention to Vermaelen as an option at the back.

The Belgian defender has been part of the Catalan club since 2014 when he moved from Arsenal, but injuries have hampered his progress.

The 31-year-old spent last season on loan at Roma, but his poor injury record is unlikely to win him a place back in the Barcelona team.

Could this work out for Everton?

The Toffees have not been shy spending their money this summer, but if they are going to bring in Vermaelen they need to make sure that it is a loan rather than a permanent deal.

There is no doubting the Belgian’s ability as a defender, but he is not one to take a chance on, considering his experience with injuries.

Vermaelen has started just seven La Liga games for Barcelona over three years, which is worrying for any potential suitor.

However, if Everton can get him to Goodison Park on loan, then there he is more than capable of being a decent back-up for the likes of Michael Keane, Ashley Williams and Phil Jagielka.

Manchester City’s odds of signing Arsenal star Sanchez boosted

The odds of Manchester City being successful in a late swoop for Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez have shortened, which could make the atmosphere at the Emirates tense during the final six days of the window.

The Chile international’s future has been a talking point for the better part of a year due to his failure to agree fresh terms on a new Arsenal deal.

The club’s inability to secure a Champions League spot last season would not have helped matters, but manager Arsene Wenger has been adamant to the press that Sanchez will stay at the club.

The bookies reflect the Frenchman’s claims as Paddy Power have Arsenal as 4/11 favourites to retain the attacker’s services, but City’s chances have been boosted.

Sky Bet have shortened odds on the two-time Premier League champions sealing Sanchez’s signature from 5/2 to 9/4.

The shift comes after The Independent reported that City were preparing to launch a last-ditch attempt to sign the 28-year-old.

It is believed that Pep Guardiola’s side would need to table an offer in excess of £70m to persuade Arsenal into considering a deal.

As it stands, Sanchez is set to run out his contract at the Emirates, meaning that the forward, who scored 24 Premier League goals last season, could leave the club for nothing next summer.

There are a handful of similar situations going on at Arsenal, with a number of first-team players who are yet to tie themselves down to new contracts.

Sanchez has not featured yet in Wenger’s team this season due to injury, but the Chilean is expected to be available for Sunday’s clash against Liverpool at Anfield.

Newcastle fans slam Ayoze Perez for his performance in Swansea win

Newcastle United picked up their second successive Premier League win on Sunday as Jamaal Lascelles’ goal saw them beat Swansea City 1-0 at the Liberty Stadium, but Magpies fans weren’t impressed with the performances of all of their players.

Having lost their opening two fixtures on their return to the top flight without scoring, the Magpies have now bounced back with two victories and two clean sheets.

Lascelles’ thumping second-half header proved to be the difference between the two sides, and the team certainly had to work hard from a defensive point of view to make sure that they took the three points back to Tyneside.

Perez started in the number 10 position and played the full 90 minutes, but he made little impact from an attacking sense.

Newcastle supporters were quick to have their say on the Spaniard’s showing via social media, with many saying that he “offers nothing”, while others are keen to see him dropped from the starting line-up next week.

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…

Liverpool fans struggling to handle rollercoaster results

Liverpool have not made life easy for their fans this season due to inconsistent performances and results on the pitch.

After losing 2-0 to Leicester City in the third round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night, Jurgen Klopp’s side took on the Foxes again, but this time in the Premier League.

Pressure was on the Reds’ shoulders to get a result at the King Power Stadium following a winless run of four matches in all competitions.

It was a frantic game on Saturday evening, with five goals being scored, as well as a saved penalty.

Mohamed Salah and Philippe Coutinho gave Liverpool a 2-0 lead inside the first 25 minutes, but a scrappy Shinji Okazaki goal put Leicester right back in it on the stroke of half time.

Craig Shakespeare’s side came out fighting after the break, and even after going 3-1 down following Jordan Henderson’s strike, they responded almost immediately through Jamie Vardy.

A worrying moment for Liverpool came deep in the second half when goalkeeper Simon Mignolet came off his line and brought down Vardy, giving away a penalty.

The Belgian, though, went from zero to hero in a matter of moments when he saved the striker’s attempt from the spot.

In the end, Liverpool held on to a 3-2 victory, which moved them up to fifth in the Premier League table, but the fans are praying for easier wins in the future.

Liverpool fans full of praise for £45m-rated attacker

If it were up to Philippe Coutinho, the attacker would currently be in Spain preparing for Barcelona’s La Liga clash against Las Palmas this weekend.

The Brazilian desperately tried to force a move to Camp Nou during the summer transfer window, but Liverpool were not playing ball as the Reds refused Coutinho a move.

In fairness to the 25-year-old, he has put his head down over the last couple of weeks – scoring against Leicester City in the Premier League last weekend, before notching against Spartak Moscow in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

It remains to be seen whether Coutinho is committed to Liverpool on a long-term basis, but it seems that the Reds have their star player back with them following a difficult period.

On Thursday, Liverpool’s official Twitter account posted a video of Coutinho scoring from various long-range attempts.

There were some Liverpool fans that took the chance to criticise the team’s defence when responding to the post, but many were quick to hail Coutinho ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash with Newcastle United.

Everton fans single out Vlasic as only positive from Sunday’s draw at Brighton

Everton had to settle for a point away to Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday, a rescued one at that, after Wayne Rooney equalised from the penalty spot in the 90th minute.Anthony Knockaert had given the home side the lead in the 82nd minute, but Brighton man Bruno elbowed Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the box with just minutes remaining, allowing Rooney to fire home. The result and performance has done little to ease the pressure on manager Ronald Koeman, who really needed all three points to silence his critics.Having managed to amass just eight points in eight matches after a significant summer spend, questions about the Dutchman’s future at the club are growing in volume. One summer signing that did please Everton fans on Sunday was Nikola Vlasic. The 20-year-old joined from Hajduk Split for a reported £10m on deadline day and so far has looked one of the better bits of business done by Koeman. His performance was one of the only positives for Toffees supporters in the Brighton draw and they took to Twitter to share their thoughts…

Newcastle United fans mock Sunderland following Grayson axe

Sunderland’s aim after being relegated to the Championship last season would have been to fight their way back into the Premier League.

However, they have found themselves in another dog fight at the bottom of the table having won just a single game in 15 outings.

Simon Grayson, who took over the Black Cats in the summer, had huge pressure on his shoulders heading into Tuesday night’s contest against bottom side Bolton Wanderers at the Stadium of Light.

The match was a frantic one as Sunderland came from behind to take a 2-1 lead before eventually salvaging a 3-3 draw.

Minutes after the final whistle, the North-East outfit confirmed via their official website that Grayson has been sacked with immediate effect.

The managerial merry-go-round is nothing new in football, but the fans of Sunderland’s arch rivals Newcastle United certainly took joy in the news.

The Magpies replaced Sunderland in the Premier League last season after winning the Championship.

In Focus: Man United midfielder Herrera a target for Atletico

According to AS, Atletico Madrid are closely monitoring Ander Herrera’s contract developments at Manchester United.

What’s the story?

Herrera picked up the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award last season after impressing during a campaign that saw him make 50 appearances in all competitions.

It had been claimed that the Spaniard could become United’s new captain following Wayne Rooney’s departure, but that honour was ultimately given to Michael Carrick.

Herrera, who is valued at £27m by transfermarkt.co.uk, has played plenty of football in recent weeks, but he struggled for action in the early stages of the campaign when Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini were both available.

Nemanja Matic and Pogba were Jose Mourinho’s first picks in central midfield in the early weeks, with Fellaini next in line. That left Herrera well down the pecking order as he went from key man to a player that was struggling for football.

Incredibly, Herrera’s contract at United will expire next summer, and according to AS, Atletico are closely monitoring developments at Old Trafford as the La Liga giants consider poaching the Spaniard on a free transfer.

Surely he could not leave on a free?

As it stands, Herrera would be able to enter into a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club when the January transfer window opens for business, which is incredible for a player that is just 28, and has a whole host of experience at the highest level.

It is thought that contract talks are underway, but Herrera would surely want guarantees over his future at Old Trafford before signing a new deal.

When Mourinho has a fully-fit squad, Herrera does not make the first XI. That places the midfielder in a difficult situation at this stage of his career.

Atletico are currently banned from registering new players, but that situation changes at the start of 2018, and having already tied up a deal for Diego Costa, Herrera could be the next Premier League player to make the move to Madrid.

It is three years since Herrera left his homeland for United, and despite being a favourite of the club’s supporters, his future at the club is extremely uncertain.

Manchested United eye Brazilian forward Malcom for summer transfer

According to The Sun, Manchester United are keen to lure Brazilian forward Malcom to Old Trafford.

What’s the Story?

Manchester United have sent scouts to keep a close eye on Bordeaux star Malcom, who has been one of the standout players in Ligue 1 so far this term. The report suggests that Jose Mourinho has been an admirer of the Brazilian youngster for almost a year.

While United are thought to be leading the race to sign the 20-year-old, a number of clubs around Europe are also thought to be keen including Bayern Munich, Paris Saint Germain, Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea.

How good has Malcom been this season?

In short, incredible. It is no surprise to see almost all European elite clubs taking an interest in the former Corinthians man.

In 12 league starts for Bordeaux, Malcom has scored 5 goals, contributed 4 assists and been hailed as the Man of the Match 5 times too.

His dribbling abilities rival that of any of his compatriots and his ability to create chances is second to none. Combine this with his eye for goal and you have a very, very good players on your hands.

If he keeps up this form throughout the season, do not be surprised to see him on the plane to Russia with Brazil in the summer.

While some may argue that Malcom, who is valued at £15.3million by Transfermarkt, has yet to be fully tested in a more competitive league, his recent form has been remarkable and Manchester United should act fast to secure him before one of their European rivals.
