Everton fans upset with club’s throwback tweet

Social media is a funny old space. Sometimes it is difficult to win.

Everton’s official Twitter account would have found that on Tuesday afternoon after attempting to raise the spirits with a throwback video to the club’s 4-0 win over Aston Villa in 2015.

There was plenty of slick football on display, but it simply reminded the Everton fans of everything that their team is not at the moment.

Under-23s boss David Unsworth remains in charge of first-team affairs at Goodison Park, although it is thought that there will soon be a breakthrough when it comes to appointing a new full-time manager.

Everton supporters could perhaps rival West Ham United fans when it comes to frustration at the moment, and a video which was supposed to raise the spirits had the opposite effect on Tuesday afternoon.

Twitter is very difficult to get right when things are not going great, and that has proved to be the case here. A selection of the reaction can be found below:

In Focus: Everton should avoid Boakye if they think he could be another transfer flop

According to reports in the Daily Mail, Everton could face competition from Premier League rivals West Bromwich Albion in the race to sign Red Star Belgrade striker Richmond Boakye, who has scored 22 goals this season.

What’s the word, then?

Well, the Daily Mail says that a Baggies scout is going to watch the 24-year-old in action in his side’s Europa League clash against Cologne on Thursday night, with the report saying that the Toffees and Chelsea have also watched the Ghana international closely this season.

The striker has been in prolific form for the Serbian outfit this term after failing to make it with Juventus before enduring a number of uninspiring loan spells, but his current record in front of goal could see him secure a move to the Premier League.

How has Boakye done this season?

He has been brilliant.

The 24-year-old has scored 22 goals in 26 appearances in all competitions for Red Star, providing a further three assists, but only one of those has come in the group stages of the Europa League despite the fact the Ghanaian has started all five of their matches.

He has 37 in 45 outings in total since joining the club in January, while he also has five goals in 13 caps for his country.

Would he be a good signing for Everton?

There is certainly no faulting his recent goal record, but his rate before his move to Red Star Belgrade may be a concern.

The 24-year-old certainly has the presence and physical stature to be an effective centre-forward, but his rather lacklustre displays against Arsenal in the Europa League could be a concern considering that is an example of the types of defences he will come up against if he completes a move to the Premier League.

What’s the verdict, then?

Well, if the Everton scouts believe he can be a success in the Premier League then they should make a move for the 24-year-old as they look to finally secure a Romelu Lukaku replacement, but if they are unsure then they are better off letting him join West Brom considering some of their transfer market failings during the summer.

Tottenham fans react as odds slashed on Maguire move

Tottenham fans are absolutely loving the latest transfer rumour, as the North Londoners have been named favourites to land Leicester’s Harry Maguire.

According to Oddschecker, Tottenham are the favourites to land one of England’s World Cup stars if he leaves Leicester this summer, with some bookmakers pricing the move as low as 2/1.

Tottenham could yet lose Toby Alderweireld this summer, so Mauricio Pochettino and Daniel Levy will absolutely have to find another top quality centre back to bring in.

Matthijs de Ligt was heavily linked with a move to North London earlier in the summer, but it seems attentions may have turned to Maguire after his incredible World Cup form.

The Leicester man is the epitome of the “good feet for a big man” cliché, completing 87 per cent of his passes at the World Cup and getting fans off their seats with his driving runs forward with the ball.

He’s also one hell of a defender, and has shown this summer he can operate comfortably in a back three, something Pochettino will certainly like.

Valued at £22.5m by Transfermarkt, the links to Maguire have certainly got fans excited, and you can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below…

Losing Mane would be more detrimental to Liverpool than Coutinho exit

Liverpool star Sadio Mane has responded to fresh reports that he is wanted by Real Madrid, reports Goal.

What’s the word?

The Senegal international has become a crucial part of Jurgen Klopp’s team alongside Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.

Last season, the 26-year-old scored 20 goals and registered eight assists in 42 appearances in all competitions.

It is not the first time that Mane has been linked with a switch to the Bernabeu, but the rumours have resurfaced following speculation that Cristiano Ronaldo could be on his way to Juventus.

According to Goal, the attacker has responded to questions regarding a possible move to Madrid, telling reporters:

“These are just rumours. I am not aware of anything and haven’t been contacted. I remain a Liverpool player and I will join my team-mates in the United States for the pre-season tour. Real are a great team, but I am focused on my team, Liverpool.”

Is Mane replaceable?

Every time a top star moves on, the club in question always manages to move on, so yes, Liverpool would survive without Mane.

However, at this moment, the Senegal international is one of the Reds’ most important players as he has formed a deadly attack with Salah and Firmino.

With the Premier League season one month away, it would be hugely detrimental to Liverpool if they lost one of their key men at this stage.

It would be difficult to find an adequate replacement in time, which could severely hamper the club’s chances of being in the title race this season.

Philippe Coutinho was widely regarded as Liverpool’s best player when he left to join Barcelona in January, but the club managed to cope due to the dominance of the forward three.

If one of those players depart, Klopp does not have good enough strength in depth in that area, which means that Mane’s absence would be heavily felt.

It seems unlikely that the former Southampton star would move this summer, but the Reds must do everything they can to make sure that Mane’s head is not turned.

Celtic fans are loving throwback Oliver Ntcham tweet from club

Celtic posted on their official Twitter account on Thursday that it was 12 months to the day since they had completed the signing of midfielder Olivier Ntcham, and Bhoys fans were quick to react.

[ad_pod ]

The Scottish Premiership champions, who can sign their ideal Jozo Simunovic upgrade by hijacking a Rangers bid, brought the 22-year-old to Celtic Park from Manchester City, and he certainly went on to make a big impression in the centre of the pitch for Brendan Rodgers’ men last term by making 48 appearances in all competitions.

As well as his defensive contribution, the Frenchman also showed the impact he can have in the final third too with nine goals and a further six assists, and he could have a big role to play in terms of attacking play this season too following the departure of Stuart Armstrong to Southampton.

Lots of Celtic supporters took to social media to respond to the post from the club, and while one labelled him as a “superb signing”, another said “player of the year coming up big man”.

Liverpool fans react to the signing of Xherdan Shaqiri

It has been no secret for months now than Liverpool need greater attacking depth; Danny Ings and Dominic Solanke are not suitable replacements for Sadio Mane, Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino if the Reds have genuine title ambitions.

Jurgen Klopp has moved to rectify that deficiency with a cut-price £13m deal for Swiss international wideman Xherdan Shaqiri following a World Cup campaign that again saw him impress.

The winger did his utmost to drag Stoke away from the relegation zone last time around but was ultimately the only player with any flair and creativity as his quality proved to be insufficient to counter-balance a dressing room with a poor collective attitude.

However, there are question marks over Shaqiri’s own willingness to roll up his sleeves, and it remains to be seen how he will fit into Jurgen Klopp’s high-tempo style.

Nevertheless, Liverpool fans seem excited about having high-quality cover and we’ve taken a closer look at the best of their reaction…

Tottenham should drop everything to attempt £58.5m-rated transfer coup – opinion

Tottenham have yet to sign a single player this summer, and so Spurs fans will be hoping that Mauricio Pochettino has something exciting up his sleeve. The Argentine won’t want to go into next season with the same squad that, at points, struggled last term – with a few major improvements needed.

Over the years, the Lilywhites have placed more attention on signing young talent ahead of proven quality, and as a result, few star names have moved to the club.

Perhaps it’s time for that to change this summer, and the Lilywhites would struggle to do better than a deal for Man Utd ace Anthony Martial, who is rated at a whopping £58.5 million for Transfer Markt. A move won’t be easy, but if they can land him, it would be a significant coup for the club.

Martial is facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford, given his lack of consistent first-team action over the last year or so under Jose Mourinho. Though often a stellar option for the Portuguese, he was rarely given a regular starting berth, and that is problematic, especially given his quality.

A lighting fast attacker, Martial is able to play out wide or through the middle, and his dribbling ability is second to none. He’s able to move around players and dance his way forward with ease, and that’s something that Tottenham are lacking at present. He’s creative and energetic, but he’s also innovative, and if there’s no way through a defence – he will find one.

Undoubtedly, he’s one of Europe’s brightest young talents, and at 22-years-old, his future is certainly very bright. Granted, he hasn’t quite hit the peaks expected of him when he won the Golden Boy award, but under a manager like Mauricio Pochettino, he would certainly get better.

If Tottenham were to land him, that would firmly highlight the lure that the North London outfit now have, and it would be a real coup for the club. They’re lacking a player with his directness and his quality at present, and so Pochettino would love to have him, without a doubt.

Tottenham fans – thoughts?

Let us know below!

Ivan Perisic the key to unlocking Jose Mourinho’s title-winning Man United attack

After a season with no silverware at Manchester United, fans of the Old Trafford outfit will be wondering how Jose Mourinho is going to turn things around.

Despite finishing second in the league behind heavy-hitting Manchester City, many United fans will have viewed last seasons performance as under par.

Martial is reportedly a target of both Tottenham and Juventus. The 22-year-old Frenchman burst onto the scene, but hasn’t been a real force in the Manchester United side of recent seasons. Mourinho may well be weighing up his options in his forward line this summer. A new addition, replacing Martial, could be the missing ingredient to the success of the past at Old Trafford.

The January transfer to bring in Chilean Alexis Sanchez just didn’t seem to work out in the way Mourinho hoped it might. Two Premier League goals, and always seeming to slow play down, he showed glimpses but did not set the world alight. Mourinho will want to make sure he has the most effective combination of a front three possible, as he sets about the task of chasing down Manchester City, who look unstoppable under the guidance of Pep Guardiola.

With that in mind, here is Man United’s dream 18/19 attack under Mourinho…

Marcus Rashford has often been left on the sidelines in the Mourinho era. He can’t seem to get a sustained spell in the side to establish himself.

The England international possesses great pace, and will take on the very best defences and likely leave defenders trailing at his feet. He can carry the ball with pace, and knows where the net is.

His pace adds a new dynamic to the United forward line, helping them get in behind defences. If the Red Devils are to lose Martial, Rashford surely has to be given a chance to be a regular starter.

Romelu Lukaku scored 27 goals in all competitions last season.

The target man should be the spearhead of Mourinho’s dream front three. Lukaku is absolutely dominant in the air, and adds strength and physicality up top.

If Lukaku gets the right delivery into the box, he is more likely than not to finish. He adds a directness to Manchester United’s play, and scores big goals. He scored 27 last season, whilst arguably not playing his very best football. He is a natural born goal scorer.

Perisic is heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford, and would be a fantastic addition.

The Croatian recently helped his national side to a World Cup final. He would be a perfect player to play alongside Romelu Lukaku, and would deliver some great through balls and crosses into the Belgian. He himself is something of a set piece specialist and also knows how to score from open play. His experience means he is a classic Mourinho signing.

Capable of playing out wide, or as a shadow striker, there is a directness to Perisic’s play which makes him preferable to Alexis Sanchez. Perisic (valued at £40.5m by Transfermarkt) has been in fine form in Serie A for many seasons, and would become one of the best wingers in the Premier League should the transfer go through.

Newcastle should move for Hegazi ahead of new season

According to ESPN FC, Newcastle United are interested in signing West Bromwich Albion centre-back Ahmed Hegazi in this summer’s transfer window.

What’s the story?

Newcastle have already brought one new central defender to the club this summer, with Fabian Schar arriving from Deportivo La Coruna.

Jamaal Lascelles is set to stay despite widespread interest in his services, but the Magpies were recently hit with the news that Florian Lejeune will miss a large chunk of next season after sustaining knee ligament damage.

Newcastle have been linked with a move for Swansea City’s Federico Fernandez, but it is understood that the Welsh outfit want £10m.

According to ESPN FC, Rafael Benitez’s side have now switched their attention to Hegazi, who has been widely tipped to leave West Brom following their relegation to the Championship at the end of last season.

Brighton & Hove Albion have also been credited with an interest, however, and Newcastle will seemingly face a battle to secure the defender’s signature.

Would Hegazi be a good signing?

In short, yes. The 27-year-old might have been part of a West Brom team relegated to the Championship, but his performances were very impressive last season.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”275149″ player=”12034″ title=”Rafa’s Pub Facts Zlatan Richarlison & Alisson”]

Indeed, the centre-back started all 38 of West Brom’s Premier League games last term, and contributed two goals during a strong campaign.

Newcastle are in need of a new defender ahead of the Premier League kickoff, and the 6ft 4in colossus certainly fits the bill.

Hegazi, who was in action for Egypt at the 2018 World Cup, is believed to have a £10m release clause in his current West Brom deal, but Newcastle will be hoping to sign him for less than that.

Benitez has not had much luck in this summer’s transfer window, but it would be a stroke of genius from the Spaniard if he secured a deal for the Baggies centre-back.

Aston Villa fans want club to sign Success

According to TEAMtalk, Aston Villa are nearing a move for Watford’s Isaac Success, with the attacker heading for Villa Park on a season-long loan.

Success joined Watford from Granada in the summer of 2016, with the Hornets paying £12.5m to secure his signature on a five-year contract.

The attacker only managed one goal in 19 appearances during the 2016-17 season, however, and ended last term on loan at Malaga, who were relegated from La Liga.

The 22-year-old has seemingly been deemed surplus to requirements at Villa this term, and according to TEAMtalk, Villa are nearing the loan capture of the Nigerian.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”275149″ player=”12034″ title=”Rafa’s Pub Facts Zlatan Richarlison & Alisson”]

Success has found it difficult to settle in English football thus far, but there is no question that the attacker has talent, and he could thrive in the right environment.

Indeed, there is every reason to believe that his arrival at Villa Park ahead of the closing of the transfer window would boost Villa’s promotion bid.

The Championship club’s supporters have been offering their views on the speculation, and a selection of the best Twitter reaction can be seen below:
