Leeds fans have been full of praise for the team and their manager after the club’s spot in the top six at the end of this season was confirmed.

Supporters of the Whites are still targeting automatic promotion as their number one target but they’re delighted with how far the team has come under the leadership of Marcelo Bielsa.

The Yorkshire club finished 13th last season and now just one year later they have managed to seal a spot in the playoffs with many of the same players who had them lulling in mid-table.

This represents the first time Leeds have finished in the top six since their return to the Championship in 2010 after being promoted from League One.

Although the job is not yet done for Bielsa and co, Leeds fans have been astonished by the turnaround the team have had this season and are ecstatic after securing a top six finish.

Of course, most of the credit must go to the man in the dugout who has transformed the playing style, the mentality of the team and the general feel around the club in an incredibly short space of time.

Everton were in hot pursuit of Olivier Giroud during the summer transfer window of 2017, but they eventually missed out on the France international as Chelsea swooped in to conclude a permanent deal. With a dependable striker still desperately needed at Goodison Park, now is the time to revive their interest.

What’s the word?

According to both the Daily Mirror and The Sun, Ronald Koeman was keen on bringing Giroud to Merseyside in 2017.

The sale of Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United left the Toffees without a recognised talisman, and they are yet to effectively replace the club’s all-time top goalscorer in the Premier League.

Cenk Tosun was brought in by Sam Allardyce in January 2018 and has been an almighty flop so far. The striker’s performances have been so tepid that even Dominic Calvert-Lewin, a player who has effectively been a glorified Bambi on ice for most of his career, has managed to cement a place at the spearhead of Marco Silva’s attack.

But signs are beginning to emerge which suggest there is a decent player lurking behind his awkward, gangly approach and incredibly suspect finishing ability – unless the ball is planted firmly on his head.

Calvert-Lewin’s perfect mentor

Calvert-Lewin’s physique and playing style fit the description of a quintessential target man, just like Giroud. With that said, Everton should reignite their interest in the soon-to-be free agent to hand the Englishman a dream mentor.

The 32-year-old has been lauded as potentially the world’s best target man by Eden Hazard, per Daily Mail, a claim which a series of fine performances at the World Cup certainly attested to.

Whatever Giroud lacks in pace he more than makes up for in intelligent positioning, intricate link-up, finishing, strength and aerial dominance. These are the qualities which could and should form the nucleus of Calvert-Lewin’s game, so why not bring one of the world’s best to the club to take Everton’s academy product under his wing?

Could a move happen?

Naturally, it would be fair to assume that Giroud may be tempted by the lure of astronomical wages away from the Premier League in places like China and the USA, but there is a sense that he has unfinished business in English football.

Just a few weeks ago Didier Deschamps revealed that Giroud wants more game time, per Sky Sports. With a vacancy clearly begging to be filled by a proven goalscorer in Silva’s attack, the club’s hierarchy should be enticed by the idea of completing a cunning free transfer for a player who would bring the best out of Calvert-Lewin in the long-term and provide a magnetic focal point in attack for the immediate future.

In a transfer market which seldom offers genuine value for money, Giroud is an exception that cannot be ignored by Everton almost two years on from their last reported pursuit.

أعلن كارلو أنشيلوتي مدرب فريق إيفرتون غياب النجم خاميس رودريجيز عن مواجهة نيوكاسل يونايتد، في بطولة الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز.

وسيلتقي الفريقان، يوم الأحد المقبل، في إطار منافسات الجولة السابعة من البريميرليج.

Everton fans on Twitter are fuming with Ronald Koeman, after the former Toffees boss posted a tweet congratulating Virgil van Dijk and Gini Wijnaldum following Liverpool’s progression into the Champions League semi-finals.

Whilst, to some people, it would seem as if the Netherlands national team manager was merely sending his congratulations to a couple of his players, the Everton supporters are livid with their former boss for celebrating their rivals’ success.

Additionally, the fact that Ajax, a team heavily filled with a number of Dutch internationals, also progressed into the semi-finals and Koeman didn’t send any of their players his best wishes, adds to their case that he was simply trying to wind his former fanbase up by congratulating two Liverpool stars.

The 56-year-old has previous in this department. The former Southampton boss once tweeted a picture of his Christmas tree, decorated with red tinsel, whilst managing the Toffees, which led to fury from the Everton fans – he eventually tweeted another picture of a tree without red decor.

Now that Koeman has antagonised the Everton fans on Twitter once again, they have wasted no time in reacting…

At the time, it was very hard to find anything good to say about Raheem Sterling if you were somebody associated with Liverpool Football Club.

A 20-year-old and his agent were holding one of the greatest clubs in England to ransom over a new contract, and when Manchester City eventually signed him for £49m, it put an end to a transfer saga that had turned nasty between player and supporters.

However, whilst a lot of people probably said some things they regret, former Reds striker John Aldridge perhaps make the biggest gaffe of them all when having his say on the saga back in 2015.

There were absolute scenes on Sunday as Liverpool moved back to the top of the league. Thogden was at Anfield to capture the exact moment in the video below…

What did Aldridge say?

The Radio City pundit said: “Brendan Rodgers should let Raheem Sterling leave for Manchester City now.

“Raheem is obviously a hugely talented player but Liverpool have a top replacement in Jordon Ibe.

“I think he’s got as much, if not more, potential than Raheem and will go on to be a better player.”

Hasn’t turned out as expected for Aldridge 

As we all now know four years down the line, Liverpool probably should have done more to hang on to Sterling, given the fact that he is arguably one of the best players in the world right now.

The England international has hit 23 goals and recorded 16 assists for the Citizens this season, whilst he also recently hit his first hat-trick for England.

In stark contrast, Ibe has since moved to Bournemouth, where he doesn’t even get into Eddie Howe’s best starting XI – the 23-year-old (only a year younger than Sterling) has been named on the team-sheet for just seven league games this season and is yet to score.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing and at the time you could see where Aldridge was coming from, well, kind of. Ibe was earning rave reviews and looked set to become a dangerous top-flight player with his pace and directness, although it hasn’t really gone to plan for the forward since his £15m move to the Cherries.

وأنهى البيانكونيري خطه السلبي في الدوري الإيطالي بفوزه 4-1 على مضيفه سبيزيا يوم الأحد، والذي كان بالمصادفة أيضًا بمثابة عودة كريستيانو رونالدو بعد تعافيه من فيروس كورونا، وتحدث عنه زميله الكولومبي.

وأردف كوادرادو: “رونالدو سعيد للغاية، لا يمكنه الانتظار للعودة واللعب، وهو ما رأيته منذ اللحظة التي دخل فيها إلى أرض الملعب، إنه سلاح إضافي بالنسبة لنا، نعلم جميعًا ما يقدمه للفريق”.

فجرت شبكة “Soccer Laduma” الجنوب إفريقية مفاجأة من العيار الثقيل تخص مستقبل هداف ومهاجم الفريق الأول لكرة القدم بنادي كايزر تشيفز، سمير نوركوفيتش.

وارتبط اسم نوركوفيتش في فترة سابقة بإمكانية الانتقال إلى الأهلي بطل الدوري المصري، بطلب من المدير الفني للعملاق القاهري الحالي، بيتسو موسيماني.

لكن بحسب الشبكة الشهيرة، لم يعد نوركوفيتش مستقرًا بسبب اهتمام بعض الأندية السعودية بالإضافة إلى الأهلي من الدوري المصري، وربما يرغم كايزر تشيفز على الموافقة على رحيله قبل إغلاق سوق الانتقالات في نهاية نوفمبر.

نوركوفيتش مصُاب في الوقت الحالي، ومن المتوقع أن يعود في ديسمبر بعد الجراحة التي قام بها في الفخذ وهي إصابة يعاني منها منذ نهاية الموسم الماضي.

وتفيد شبكة “Soccer Laduma” بأن من الممكن أن يوافق كايزر تشيفز على رحيل نوركوفيتش بسبب الأزمة المالية التي يعاني منها الفريق، وإيقافه من التعاقدات من الفيفا بسبب صفقة غير قانونية من مدغشقر في فبراير الماضي.

الجدير بالذكر أن الصحافة الجنوب إفريقية تؤكد أن كايزر تشيفز قد وضع عينه على بديل نوركوفيتش في حالة رحيله وهو مهاجم سوبر سبورت يونايتد، برادلي جروبلر.

Unai Emery blames himself for Arsenal’s embarrassing defeat to Wolves on Wednesday evening, per the Daily Mirror.

Arsenal were beaten 3-1 by Nuno Espirito Santo’s spirited side as their top-four hopes sustained a severe blow.

The Gunners now sit fifth with three games of the season remaining, one point behind Chelsea and four behind third-placed Tottenham Hotspur.

The loss to Wolves was their ninth of the season and their seventh away from home.

And Emery has insisted that the responsibility for this defeat lies solely at his door.

He said: “I don’t want to speak about individuals. We need to continue together and not look at one player, defensive or attacking.

“We need to think to recover our confidence, our good moment. When we were in the worse moments we can recover to take possibilities like we have now.

“I usually am very critical of myself. I am angry with myself when we didn’t do the game plan I wanted.

“My idea, my style is to look in front and find the solution, not who is the player who is playing worse or not doing what we spoke of before.

“First I think of the solution. That is to think about Sunday and take the possibility to come back with our best performance to take the three points.

“When we win, we win together and when we lose, we lose together. In general I think we have possibilities to be in the top four.

“We lost the chance to have it in our hands but we will continue and take the opportunity on Sunday.”

Players to blame

Emery is shielding his players here.

The Gunners have endured a terrible dip in form and have lost three of their last five games.

With the top four slipping out of their grasp, Arsenal’s players have to bear the brunt of responsibility.

The likes of Shkodran Mustafi, Alex Iwobi and Mesut Ozil have all been performing below themselves in recent weeks.

The main thing that needs to happen this summer is a major rebuild; Emery needs to ship out the deadwood and bring in the best possible players he can find.

And, after that, he needs to stop shielding his players from the criticism they so desperately deserve.
