Please stay! Spurs fans love Llorente’s highlight reel

[ad_pod ]

Tottenham Hotspur supporters have urged the club to keep striker Fernando Llorente after the club uploaded a video of his Champions League highlights to Twitter.

The Spanish striker has enjoyed an exceptional campaign in Europe, helping the club to the final in Madrid, where they will play Liverpool.

Llorente laid on a vital assist in the group stages against PSV Eindhoven as Spurs won 2-1, before scoring in the 3-0 thumping of Borussia Dortmund at Wembley.

His most important contribution, though, came at the Etihad Stadium, as Mauricio Pochettino’s men beat Manchester City on away goals.

The 34-year-old netted the decisive strike, diverting a corner past Ederson with his hip, sending Spurs into the semi-finals and a meeting with Ajax.

Their win over the Dutch giants was achieved following the forward’s introduction as a substitute, replacing midfielder Victor Wanyama.

His contract expires this summer but Spurs fans have urged the club to keep him after his European heroics.

Take a look at the best of the reaction below!

Llorente refuses to discuss Spurs future ahead of Champions League final

[ad_pod ]

Fernando Llorente insists that he is not thinking about leaving Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the Champions League final, per Mundo Deportivo.

What’s the word?

The Spanish striker’s contract expires this summer, with the Daily Mail reporting that Spurs will allow him to walk when his deal ends.

He has played a key role in helping Spurs to the final, scoring the decisive goal in the quarter-final against Manchester City as well as turning the game on its head after coming on as a substitute versus Ajax.

He maintains that he is only currently thinking about the final in Madrid, with Mauricio Pochettino’s men set to take on Liverpool at the Wanda Metropolitano, and says that his team-mates have yet to truly grasp the enormity of the occasion.

He said: “I’ll give another interview after the final because now I do not think about my future.

“It’s not time yet or it’s not the right time. I prefer to enjoy what remains because it is something historic and unforgettable for this Tottenham. It is indescribable.

“I sincerely believe that today we are not yet aware of the greatness that would be to win the Champions League. We play forever in our memories.”

The wildcard

Llorente could yet have a major say on where the trophy ends up.

The 34-year-old has been there and done it all; he has won the World Cup and is a genuinely experienced campaigner.

His influence, then, will be indispensable in Spain and he is also an excellent option as a substitute.

A rangy striker who is excellent in the air and holds the ball up brilliantly, Llorente has proved this season that he can still influence the biggest games on the biggest stage.

And if he manages to score again against Liverpool, he absolutely deserves that new contract.

Perhaps, then, he is singing for his supper in the biggest game in the club’s history.

Arsenal fans react to comments from Yannick Carrasco

[ad_pod ]

Lots of Arsenal fans on Twitter have been reacting to comments made by Dalian Yifang’s Yannick Carrasco and a report linking their club with landing his signature.

The 25-year-old told Belgian news outlet Nieuwsblad that an offer from another club has been received and negotiations are progressing well with his agent.

The article containing the interview also claims that the team in question plays regularly in the UEFA Champions League and is believed to be the Gunners, despite them not competing in the competition since the 2016/2017 campaign.

Members of the Emirates Stadium faithful were understandably bemused, with one musing that the winger has been plying his trade in China so long that he hasn’t noticed Unai Emery’s men are currently competing in the UEFA Europa League and that they need to be quiet so as not to alert the Belgian.

Carrasco shocked many when he swapped Atletico Madrid for the Chinese Super League back in February 2018, but now he could well move back to Europe a year-and-a-half later.

One point separated City and Liverpool but twenty-five separated them from the rest! Fans discuss who could reduce the deficit next season in the video below?

Liverpool & Michael Edwards’ shrewd dealings are now worth over a billion

[ad_pod ]

It goes without saying that Liverpool are currently operating at gargantuan levels in the transfer market.

With Sporting Director Michael Edwards at the helm, the transfer guru has helped garner £19m and £20m fees for the likes of Dominic Solanke and Danny Ings, making a combined £39m on players that were signed for mere compensation fees and had no use to the first-team anymore.

However, enough about players who had no use to Jurgen Klopp, and let’s take a look at the ones who do and their current astronomical valuations.

You can relive Liverpool’s Champions League celebrations in glorious 2D thanks to the guys at 442oons in the video below…

According to the CIES Football Observatory’s recent standings regarding the 100 most valuable footballers in the world, 11 Liverpool players find their way onto the chart in what is an excellent visual representation of just how well the Reds have identified talent in recent years.

Mohamed Salah is second on the list behind Kylian Mbappe and is valued at €219.6m (£195.3m), whilst Sadio Mane is closest to him at sixth and is valued at €157.8m (£140.3m) .

Behind those two, Roberto Firmino, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Alisson Becker, Andrew Robertson, Fabinho, Georginio Wijnaldum, Naby Keita and Joe Gomez follow in that order – all of their valuations are as follows:

Salah: €219.6m (£195.3m)

Mane: €157.8m (£140.3m)

Firmino: €144.2m (£128.2m)

Alexander-Arnold: €130.2m (£115.8m)

Van Dijk: €112.1m (£99.7m)

Alisson: €107.5m (£95.6m)

Robertson: €88.3m (£78.5m)

Fabinho: €86.2m (£76.6m)

Wijnaldum: €75.8m (£67.4m)

Keita: €68.9m (£61.3m)

Gomez: €67.8m (£60.3m)

Total: €1.3bn (£1.1bn)

Astonishingly, almost all of Klopp’s most picked players find themselves on the list, apart from Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Joel Matip – Alexander-Arnold is the most expensive defender on the list at £115.8m.

Now, if we were to compare the total valuations of all of the aforementioned players to the prices that they were signed for, it makes pretty good reading for Liverpool supporters and Edwards.

Salah: £34m

Mane: £34m

Firmino: £29m

Alexander-Arnold: Free

Van Dijk: £75m

Alisson: £66.8m

Robertson: £10m

Fabinho: £39m

Wijnaldum: £25m

Keita: £52.75m

Gomez: £3.5m

Total: £369.1m

Take that figure away from the aforementioned £1.1bn and Liverpool’s 11 players who made the Football Observatory’s top 100 list would see the Reds make a profit of £731m if they sold all of them right now.

If anything goes to show just how well the Champions League winners have invested in recent years, it is this eye-opening revelation.
