According to The Daily Mirror, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has blocked a move away for Ryan Kent following approaches from both Rangers and Leeds this summer.

What’s the word?

The report claims Klopp wants to hang on to Kent following the absences of his first-choice attacking trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

It adds the winger will be given the chance to shine in pre-season and will go on the club’s tour of the USA. The reported decision on Kent comes after reports in recent weeks had suggested Rangers were keen on re-signing the 22-year-old this summer after an impressive loan campaign at Ibrox last season.

Whilst Klopp’s thinking on keeping Kent perhaps predominantly revolved around the lack of alternative options, his displays at Rangers surely warrant a genuine chance for the upcoming campaign.

A more than solid back-up

A versatile attacker, capable of playing on either flank or even through the middle, Kent was an impressive figure under Steven Gerrard last year. Scoring six goals and providing a further ten assists in 43 appearances across all competitions, the 22-year-old seemed to add a greater end product to his game than he has shown in the past.

Indeed, his ability to step up for the big occasion was something that didn’t go unnoticed by the Rangers manager. Following a particularly fine display after an Old Firm derby, Gerrard said: “When he’s at his level – whether you’re a Celtic player or anyone else in the league – he’s difficult to cope with.”

At Anfield, Kent is highly unlikely to displace either Salah or Mane in the starting line-up. But as an option off the bench, the Liverpool academy product could offer that extra spark from out wide. The fact he has just one senior appearance for the club to his name suggests he hasn’t been given a real shot at making it in the first-team.

His loan spells have no doubt helped him grow and the year in Scotland certainly raised his game up a level. Indeed, speaking back in February, fellow Liverpool hero Gary McAllister said of Kent: “There aren’t many wingers who get you off your seat in today’s football. They’re risk-takers, they put the ball at risk at times by putting it close to defenders, so it’s getting that balance of when to go and do your magic.”

In the games Liverpool’s fabled forward line strike a blank, they could do a lot worse than to turn to Kent to conjure up a bit of magic. So whilst Klopp’s decision might be based on the short-term, it could end up being a long-term success.

وأضاف: “قد لا تلاحظ في كثير من الأحيان مستوى فينالدوم بين زملائه الجيدين في ليفربول، لكنه يقوم بعمل رائع ويستطيع تسجيل أهداف”.

واختتم: “أرى بأن فينالدوم من أهم اللاعبين في تشكيل يورجن كلوب، يجب الاحتفاظ به، والتخلي عنه لن يكون جيدًا للفريق”.

أعلن نادي برشلونة المنافس في بطولة الدوري الإسباني عن التشخيص النهائي لإصابة ظهيره الأيمن ولاعب الوسط سيرجي روبيرتو، التي تعرض لها أمس في مباراة غرناطة في ربع نهائي كأس ملك إسبانيا.

وشارك روبيرتو يوم أمس الأربعاء أساسيًا، لكن تم استبداله في الدقيقة 57، بسبب إصابة تعرض لها في المباراة أمام غرناطة.

وكان برشلونة قد أفاد بعد نهاية المباراة أن إصابة اللاعب هي عبارة عن بعض الآلام في العضلة الأمامية من الفخذ الأيمن، ولكنه النادي أكد أن روبيرتو سيخضع لمزيد من الفحوصات اليوم لمعرفة التشخيص النهائي (طالع التفاصيل).

Some Everton fans have taken to Twitter to discuss Ademola Lookman’s imminent departure to RB Leipzig.

The 21-year-old endured a disappointing campaign last term with the Toffees, making just three Premier League starts despite Marco Silva revealing how desperate he was to keep him out of Leipzig’s clutches last summer.

Lookman spent the second half of the 2017/18 campaign on loan with the Bundesliga side, and was involved in an impressive nine goals in just 11 appearances, which prompted a £25m bid from Leipzig.

It was swiftly rejected, but the German side look to have got their man for a much cheaper fee after a year of stagnation for the 5 foot 9 attacker – Sky Sports reports that it will be an initial £16m fee with add-ons taking the deal to £22.5m.

Everton owe Charlton a fraction of that figure after agreeing a sell-on clause with the south Londoners back when they signed him in 2017.

According to a statement from Leeds Live, Ryan Kent is the outstanding option should Leeds look to complete any remaining transfer business before the window shuts.

What’s the word?

Leeds have been rather quiet of late when it’s come to transfer activity.

They welcomed back Jack Harrison, however, they’ve only brought in players on loan for this season, seeing Ben White and Helder Costa arrive beside the deal that saw Jack Clarke return temporarily too.

Perhaps rather bizarrely, the club has hinted that not much further work is required after Victor Orta said they were 90% done in terms of what they’d set out to achieve this summer.

But despite that, there could yet be one more arrival according to Leeds Live.

In a Q&A on their website, they admitted that Liverpool winger Kent remains an option for them, declaring that there is room in the side for the right player at the right price.

They say that the Whites have been interested since before they sold Clarke.

Time to move on

Although this Leeds squad does need more bodies in its ranks, it certainly doesn’t need another winger.

Kent was in fine form for Rangers in the SPFL last term, netting six goals, but the Yorkshire club aren’t exactly short of options in his position.

Costa will bolster their choices significantly whilst Clarke is another year older and perhaps more ready to make a breakthrough.

They also have Harrison whilst Pablo Hernandez is one of the star players in the squad, contributing to 12 goals and 12 assists last term. Even Ezgjan Alioski could play in that role if Marcelo Bielsa found himself short.

Earlier this summer, Goal reported that Liverpool were looking for £12m for his services. The fact of the matter is that Leeds need to be targeting other areas with that kind of money.

You sense that Bielsa’s side are still short defensively and lack cover following Pontus Jansson’s departure. Meanwhile, they also head into the new campaign with one fit senior centre forward in Patrick Bamford after an injury to Kemar Roofe.

Thus, continuing to pursue Kent over targets would be foolish and if they brought him in over improvement in other areas, they’d be staring at a huge mistake.

West Ham United have completed the signing of striker Albian Ajeti from FC Basel for an undisclosed fee, which could rise to £11m with add-ons according to Claret & Hugh.

The agreement is a shrewd one.

Manuel Pellegrini’s striking options were depleted significantly by the departures of Marko Arnautovic, Lucas Perez, Andy Carroll and Jordan Hugill in this transfer window.

Summer signing Sebastian Haller became the club’s record acquisition when he joined from Eintracht Frankfurt but he had just Javier Hernandez as his back-up.

Now, though, there is another option, and Ajeti’s numbers are excellent.

At a base level, he is a goalscorer. He has scored 14 league goals in the past two seasons. He has also laid on eight assists across the two campaigns.

But the statistics show more than just a poacher.

Ajeti, per fbref, averaged an impressive 0.76 goals and assists per game last season. The campaign prior, he averaged 0.81.

Now, of course, this is a player who is currently playing in the Swiss Super League. Nobody can say with any degree of certainty whether he will be able to make the transition to the Premier League.

But the numbers are good and so too is the fee.

A cost of £11m is negligible in today’s transfer market – Haller, of course, cost an initial £45m that could rise to £50m, per FFC sources.

And Ajeti offers a different threat and a different option to both the Frenchman and Hernandez.

This is, in essence, a punt.

But it is also a calculated one and it could well be an exceptional acquisition for the money being spent.

Tottenham Hotspur have yet to receive a single formal bid for left-back Danny Rose, sources close to the club have confirmed to Football FanCast.

The defender was left out of the club’s pre-season tour of Asia to “explore prospective opportunities with other clubs”, per Spurs’ official website.

Effectively, Rose was placed in the shop window and FFC has been told that there is interest from French club PSG, who have approached the player’s representatives to gauge his interest in playing in Ligue 1.

However, sources have confirmed that there has yet to be a concrete proposal put forward by a suitor, with Rose now facing the prospect of remaining in north London.

The England international has not pushed for a move and manager Mauricio Pochettino has said that he will reintegrate the 29-year-old into his squad if he is unable to secure a transfer.

The English transfer window shuts next Thursday, with Spurs facing Aston Villa in the opening game of their Premier League season two days later, but most European markets will remain open until the end of August.

Rose could subsequently leave the club after next week’s deadline, particularly if PSG formalise their interest.

There is a desire at Spurs to sign Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon, a player that Pochettino believes could be a long-term replacement to Rose.

However, there has been a lack of movement on that deal, with there being a suggestion that the club would prefer to sell Rose before buying his replacement as opposed to the other way around.

Sessegnon’s manager, Scott Parker, the former Spurs midfielder, has said that he expects the teenager to remain at the club for the 2019/20 season.

The defender, who can also play as a winger, has a contract that expires at the end of next season, however, raising the possibility of him leaving for nothing in 12 months.

وأردف: “الأمر كان شديد الأهمية للأبيض لتحقيق المكسب، لأن المباراة كانت مُقامة على أرضهم وهذه المنافسة قوية ومجموعتهم ليست سهلة أبدًا، الفريق الجزائري كان قويًا، ويجب على الزمالك في المباريات التي يلعبها على أرضه يجب أن يفوز بها، المجموعة صعبة جدًا”.

وبشأن حظوظ الزمالك بالفوز بدوري أبطال إفريقيا والدوري، أجاب: “الفريق به لاعبين جيدين جدًا، وعلى الزمالك أن يأخذ حذره، هو في مقدمة الدوري ولكن لا ننسى أن الأهلي لعب مباراتين أقل، وعندما يعود من كأس العالم للأندية سيكون لديه 6 نقاط يسعى لتحقيقها”.

واستطرد مدرب الزمالك الأسبق: “الدوري في مصر دائمًا بين الأهلي والزمالك، هما الفريقان الأقوى في مصر، والأمر لن يكون سهلا على القلعة البيضاء، عليهم أن يأخذوا حذرهم ويلعبوا كل مباراة على حدى، وسنرى في نهاية الدوري”.

وأشار: “عن دوري أبطال إفريقيا، نحن ما زالنا في ضربة البداية وهناك مباريات كثيرة قادمة، لنرى ما سيحدث ولكي تكون بطل إفريقيا من الصعب جدًا الحكم، لأن هناك جولات أخرى متبقية هو طريق”.

وحول اللاعب الذي لفت نظره في الزمالك وأنه مؤثر جدًا مع الفريق؟، أوضح: “محمد أبو جبل لأنه لاعب شديد الأهمية للزمالك ومهم للجماهير واللاعبين هو قائد جيد ويأمن الفريق ولاعب جيد جدًا، وشرفت بالعمل معه في سموحة”.

وتابع: “أبو جبل عمل بمنتهى القوة حتى أصبح الحارس الأول، وهو أمن للزمالك ودفاعه، اللاعب الآخر هو أحمد سيد زيزو ويوسف أوباما، وبالتأكيد طارق حامد هو لاعب شديد الأهمية في منتصف الملعب”.

وأضاف: “هناك شيكابالا ذي الخبرة الكبيرة وقدمه اليسرى ساحرة، الفريق لديه لاعبين جيدين جدًا، اللاعبين الصغار الذين ينصهرون داخل المجموعة، أعتقد الزمالك لديه مجموعة جيدة ومتجانسة إذا عملوا بجدية ورغبوا أن يكونوا أبطال”.

واختتم: “لا ينبغي على الزمالك أن يكون الثاني أو الثالث أو الرابع، لا بد من اللاعبين أن يؤمنوا أن يكون الزمالك هو الأول، لأن هذا هو الزمالك وتاريخه”.
