Rangers kicked off the new season in style as they ground out a hard-fought 1-0 win away at Aberdeen on Saturday.

Steven Gerrard’s side took home all three points thanks to a first-half strike from Ryan Kent, and earned an impressive clean sheet in large part down to Leon Balogun.

The 32-year-old made his debut for the Gers after joining the club from Wigan earlier this summer, and looked every inch a smart signing by Ross Wilson and co.

He won 100% of the duels that he contested (three on the ground and six in the air), made three clearances and blocked one shot too – and that’s not to mention him clattering head-first into the post too.

And after seeing his display, Rangers fans took to Twitter to share their reactions.

A couple of Rangers fans thought Balogun’s performance reminded them of former powerhouse Madjid Bougherra.

Another Rangers supporter seemed to be even more impressed with the defender, even calling for him to be given the captain’s armband.

If his debut is anything to go by, then Rangers might have made one of the smartest signings of the summer.

Having been thrown into the deep end away at Pittodrie, Balogun dealt with everything with superbly, not shirking a challenge and putting his head where it hurts – quite literally at times too when he knocked into that post.

Gerrard will have been delighted by his centre-back’s commanding performance.

وقال ثروت سويلم خلال تصريحات صحفية نقلها مراسل “بطولات”: “كانت لدي رؤية أن رئيس الرابطة يكون صفي الدين بسيوني أو أنا، بما أننا الأقدم في الاتحاد؛ ولكن الرابطة رأت أن الرئيس يجب أن يكون مرشحًا من الأندية، وتم اختيار أحمد دياب رئيسًا وعماد متعب نائبًا له”.

وأضاف: “هدفنا عودة الجماهير وهذا الملف معي، عامر حسين سيكون مشرفًا على لجنة المسابقات، وهدفنا هو إقامة دوري محترم بمواعيد محددة، وسنعقد اجتماعًا مع الأندية”.

وأتم: “ندرس تأجيل تفعيل عمل الرابطة لحين انتهاء أقرب جمعية عمومية؛ ولكن يبقى الهدف الأساسي هو تنظيم دوري قوي”.

أعرب فابيينو تافاريس لاعب وسط فريق ليفربول الإنجليزي، عن سعادته بالفوز والأداء أمام بورتو أمس، في دوري أبطال أوروبا على ملعب دراجاو.

ليفربول فاز على بورتو 5/1، وتصدر مجموعته التي تضم أتلتيكو مدريد وميلان، برصيد 6 نقاط وبفارق نقطتين عن روخي بلانكوس.

وقال فابي في تصريحات لموقع ليفربول الرسمي: “كانت ليلة رائعة، لم نتوقع الفوز بخمسة أهداف، لقد خلقنا الكثير من الفرص، وكان بإمكاننا تسجيل المزيد”.

وأضاف: “لقد حافظنا على الإيقاع والقوة والجودة، ونسعى لأن نواصل العمل بنفس الطريقة قبل مواجهة مانشستر سيتي المقبلة، كان بإمكاننا الحفاظ على نظافة الشباك أيضًا، لكن بورتو لديه لاعبون جيدون”.

وأشاد بـ كورتيس جونز: “إنه لاعب جيد، لقد احتاج إلى المباريات ليظهر إمكانياته، من الناحية البدنية ظهر بمستوى مميز، كذلك والكرة بين أقدامه، يعرف كيف يتخذ القرار الصحيح في الوقت المناسب، سيتطور ويتحسن لأنه موهوب حقًا، وأنا سعيد من أجله”.

وعن صدارة الدوري ومجموعة دوري الأبطال، قال فابيينيو: “من المهم حقًا تصدر هذه المجموعة الصعبة، وكذلك الدوري، ولا توجد أي مباراة سهلة في أي بطولة، لكن علينا أن نكون دائمًا مستعدين للعب بطريقتنا والحفاظ على الكثافة، علينا أن نواصل بنفس الأداء”.

وعن مواجهة مانشستر سيتي الأحد المقبل، أكد: “أداء مثل الذي قدمناه ضد بورتو يمنحنا المزيد من الثقة قبل مباراة مانشستر سيتي على ملعب أنفيلد”.

واختتم: “نحن نعلم أن أنفيلد سيكون بأجواء رائعة حقًا، هذه هي المباريات التي يحب كل لاعب أن يخوضها، سنقدم كل شيء ونعلم أن جماهيرنا ستكون معنا”.

What’s the word?

According to Fehmarn24, the Midlands outfit are ‘ready to pay’ €25m (£22.5m) to secure Milot Rashica from Werder Bremen and it comes just days after Tahith Chong secured a loan move to the German club from Man Utd.

It is also claimed that Villa will have to convince the 24-year-0ld that they will not be in another relegation battle this season.

Although there is an expectation that the winger will depart Werder this summer.

Grealish successor

Whilst staving off relegation bolsters Villa’s chances of keeping Grealish a little long, it would be foolish to think he’ll be around forever given his Three Lions aspirations.

Not only will Dean Smith be losing his skipper, but also a player who has provided the second-highest number of chances in the Premier League this season – only second to City superstar Kevin de Bruyne, so it’s certainly going to be big boots to fill at some stage.

Rashica seems the most suitable heir to the throne given his performances in the Bundesliga this campaign. Per WhoScored, the Kosovo international has provided eight goals and five assists whilst averaging 2.6 shots, 2 dribbles and 1.4 key passes per game.

He’s even been likened to Alexis Sanchez as he’s got pace to burn, can play anywhere along the front-line and is “ice-cold.”

The glowing endorsements don’t stop there either – his manager Florian Kohfeldt believes Rashica “makes scoring look easy” whilst his teammate Theo Gebre Selassie called him “one of the best players in the Bundesliga.”

Kohfeldt has also dubbed him “incredible” and has tipped him to fit in well to the style of play in the Premier League.

Overall, £22.5m looks a no-brainer considering the fees paid this time last year and given the interest in Grealish, the club should start looking for a replacement before it’s too late.

يرى الدولي الهولندي، فرينكي دي يونج، متوسط ميدان فريق برشلونة، أن إمكانية إقالة رونالد كومان، من تدريب النادي الكتالوني، ليس الحل، بعد الهزائم المتتالية في دوري أبطال أوروبا، وذلك خلال حديثه لوسائل الإعلام بعد الهزيمة من بنفيكا.

وخسر برشلونة بثلاثية نظيفة، أمام بنفيكا مساء اليوم الأربعاء على ملعب “دا لوز”، في المباراة التي جمعت بينهما، ضمن لقاءات الجولة الثانية لمباريات المجموعة الخامسة بدوري الأبطال (طالع تقرير المباراة). شاهد اهداف مباراة برشلونة وبنفيكا

وقال دي يونج في تصريحات نقلتها صحيفة “ماركا الإسبانية: “نحن في لحظة صعبة حقًا الآن، لقد سجلوا الهدف الأول في وقتٍ مُبكر جدًا، وهذا أمر صعبًا للغاية”.

وأضاف: “في الشوط الأول لم نلعب بشكل سيئ، لقد خلقنا فرصًا وشكلنا خطرًا لكننا لم نُسجل، بعد الهدف الثاني المباراة اختلفت وعانينا كثيرًا”.

وبسؤاله “هل ترى برشلونة خارج دوري أبطال أوروبا؟”، أجاب: “ما زالت هُناك مُباريات مُتبقية، وإذا فزنا بها فذلك يعني أن هُناك فرصة، وأنا ما زلت واثقًا من قدرتنا على تجاوز دور المجموعات”.

وتابع: “يجب علينا أن نستمر في القتال، وأن نكون معًا، ونتغلب على هذا الوضع، وألا يهرب أحد من مواقف كهذه، وأن نعمل بجد ونتحد كفريقٍ واحد”.

وأكمل: “لقد خسرنا ولم نتمكن من التسجيل، نحن في وضع صعب للغاية، علينا أن نواصل العمل”.

وأستكمل: “نحن نحاول القيام بكل شيء، نعمل بجد في التدريبات، لقد بذلنا قصارى جهدنا في الملعب ولكن اليوم لم يكن يومنا”.

وأنهى تصريحاته بالحديث عن إمكانية إقالة رونالد كومان قائلًا: “أنا لا يُمكنني الحديث عن كومان، الأمر لا يتعلق بي، لكنني لا أعتقد أن تغيير المدرب يُمكن أن يكون حلًا لشيء”.

Manchester United target Jadon Sancho will still be a Borussia Dortmund player next season, according to the club’s sporting director Michael Zorc.

The 11-cap England international right winger has rejoined his Bundesliga teammates for their pre-season training camp in Switzerland, reports say.

Dortmund had issued an ultimatum insisting a deal should be sorted out by August 10 to avoid any interruption to their camp and to give them time to find a replacement.

As it stands, the German club’s deadline has now passed, and Zorc seemed to suggest that Sancho will be staying at the Signal Iduna Park for the 2020/21 Bundesliga season, telling reporters on Monday “we plan on having Jadon Sancho in our team this season, the decision is final. I think that answers all our questions.”

He went on to add “last summer, we adjusted Jadon’s salary to match the development of his performances. So in context, we had already extended his contract until 2023 back then.”

However, Fabrizio Romano revealed that, while there is “no agreement reached” between the two clubs, talks are ongoing, and personal terms are not expected to be a problem.

The Italian transfer guru added this is a “normal” situation while both clubs remain embroiled in a “poker game” that has shown no signs of ending anytime soon.

It is worth remembering Dortmund have been here before. Zorc came unstuck after saying the same thing about Ousmane Dembele, as the French international ended up leaving the club after just one season for Barcelona.

There was always bound to be plenty of plotting, scheming and double-bluffing on both sides because there’s an awful lot of money involved.

Lucien Favre’s side are looking for at least £108m for the club’s top scorer last season, but the United board believe this is unrealistic, given the current circumstances.

Transfers of this size and scale are no easy task and it can take a great deal of time to reach an amenable resolution as a result.

Dortmund have drawn a line in the sand which means it is up to Ed Woodward to sort out a deal that is satisfactory by all accounts.

While some will be concerned it seems as though the ongoing transfer saga has taken a turn for the worse, it appears they are still locked in negotiations. Man United must meet their demands if they want to prise Sancho away from the Westfalenstadion this summer.

West Ham have been rather quiet in the transfer market so far this summer with the main saga surrounding the future of Declan Rice.

London rivals Chelsea are keen to bring him back to Stamford Bridge having been released as a 14-year-old back in 2014.

According to The Sun, the Blues are set to launch a bid for the English defensive midfielder after already spending over £130m on the likes of Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell.

The Hammers, however, are being firm in their £80m asking price, a fee which would eclipse a club-record substantially.

Whether he’s sold very much remains to be seen but the Irons are going to need to find themselves a viable successor fit to fill the void Rice will leave behind when – and if – he departs in the near future.

And they may not need to spend a penny in doing so should David Moyes promote Josh Cullen into the first-team set-up as he has done with Grady Diangana this off-season.

The 24-year-old has been out on loan three times now in his career, the latest of which was a successful two-year spell with Charlton Athletic.

Cullen averaged two tackles, 1.6 key passes, 1.4 clearances, 1.3 interceptions and 2.7 long balls per game this season in the Championship for a team that were ultimately relegated.

His form down the road at The Valley has led to international recognition in Mick McCarthy’s Ireland side where he has picked up two caps.

Lee Bowyer has been very impressed with the 5 foot 9 enforcer during his time at the club, speaking to Football.London, he said: “Josh Cullen has been excellent for the two years he has been working with me. Every single game he’s outstanding, very rarely does he do anything wrong. Again he protected the back four so well in the middle of the park. Josh doesn’t really give the ball away. He tidies things up, he breaks things up well. He was outstanding.”

Going by that review alone, it would seem West Ham have the perfect Rice successor, so the club can’t afford to offload him just yet despite interest from Crystal Palace and Fulham, as per the Telegraph.
