Manchester City return from the international break this weekend and they face a tough trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday afternoon to face Jose Mourinho’s Lilywhites.

The Citizens were boosted by the news earlier this week that Pep Guardiola had committed to a new contract with the club, meaning he is set to stay in charge until the summer of 2023.

However, the Spanish manager will have to improve City’s form in the Premier League if he wants to stay in the job for that long, with the Manchester club having made a disappointing start to the 2020/21 season, as they currently sit in 10th position ahead of this afternoon’s game.

Spurs, meanwhile, sit in second position after a strong start to the season, so it will certainly be a tough ask for Guardiola’s side to come away with three points, as he faces his old rival, Mourinho.

However, if City have title aspirations this season, you would imagine that this is the sort of game the Citizens need to take points from, so we expect an attacking line-up from the Spanish manager.

Here’s how Football FanCast expects City to line-up against Spurs on Saturday afternoon:

We feel that Guardiola should keep faith in the defence that has performed admirably in recent weeks, with the Citizens having kept two clean sheets in their last four Premier League fixtures.

Despite Phil Foden’s impressive England display in midweek, in which he grabbed two goals against Iceland in a 4-0 win, this will undoubtedly be a physical midfield battle against Mourinho’s side, so the youngster may be a better option from the bench.

Therefore, Rodri should keep his place in defensive midfield to add some protection for Kevin De Bruyne who should push forward and try and exploit Spurs’ shaky backline with his dangerous crosses.

Raheem Sterling was reported to be back in training this week, as he looks to have shaken off a minor injury and with the home side without first-choice right-back Matt Doherty due to him testing positive for the current viral outbreak, the City winger could be a key advantage if he can get the better of the error-prone deputy Serge Aurier.

The one change we feel Guardiola should make is restoring Riyad Mahrez, rated at up to €70 (£62m) by Football Observatory, to his starting line-up in place of Ferran Torres, as although the winger is no doubt in confident form after his hat-trick against Germany in midweek, he is yet to score a Premier League goal.

Whoever is at right-wing will have more defensive responsibility in this game, as Sergio Reguilon will push on a lot if he starts at left-back for the home side so Guardiola should opt for the more experienced Algerian.

Gabriel Jesus up top completes a dangerous line-up for Manchester City in what could prove to be a hugely important fixture in the context of their season.

Wolves sensation Raul Jimenez has been backed to secure a move out of Molineux in the near future by former striker Marlon Harewood.

Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, the 41-year-old claimed that the Old Gold forward deserved a move to a bigger club, even though it would be a massive miss for the club.

Since his rise to stardom in the Midlands, Jimenez has been linked with an exit to Manchester United and Juventus, as revealed by the Mexican himself in an interview with TUDN, via Goal.

The £36m-rated talisman is an integral part of Nuno Santo’s squad having netted 48 goals and delivered 18 assists since arriving from Atletico Madrid in 2018.

He would then cost a club-record £30m after an initial loan spell.

And Harewood claims that he’s earned a move elsewhere, despite being a perfect fit for Wolves.

“He just fits them nicely. He has an understanding with all the players, he’s a really top class player. When he’s with Wolves, he fits them well. And when you need a goal, and you can see it coming, and he’s going to be that person to score that goal. “It’s strange, but all the best to him. I hope he does get his move that he’s worth because over the last couple of years he’s been top class, and he’s helped Wolves a lot. “He’d be a miss, so I can’t see him going easily or the club letting him go because it will be very hard to replace a player like that. وأضاف فينجادا أن الاشتراك في الدورة الأولمبية شرف لأي لاعب يمارس كرة القدم، بعيدًا عن البطولات الأخرى، حيث أنها لا تتكرر في عمر اللاعب إلا مرة واحدة.

Em 2015, o zagueiro disputou 57 partidas, sendo um dos jogadores que mais entraram em campo pelo clube na temporada. Em julho do ano passado, ele renovou o contrato por mais dois anos. Agora, o vínculo do jogador com o Cruz-Maltino vai até o fim do ano que vem.

ومن المقرر أن تعقد انتخابات النادي الأهلي يوم 26 من نوفمبر الجاري، والتي يترشح الثنائي خالد الدرندلي وخالد مرتجي على منصب أمين الصندوق.

وقال خالد الدرندلي في تصريحات إذاعية عبر “نجوم إف إم”: “علمت بخروجي من قائمة الخطيب في الانتخابات المقبلة عن طريق وسائل الإعلام، وهذا الأمر أحزنني، والخطيب كان يعلم الاتفاق المبرم بيني وبين مرتجي بنزولنا على منصب النائب وأمين الصندوق بشكل مستقل”.

واستطرد: “بكل تأكيد المنافسة قوية مع خالد مرتجي، وأكن له كل الاحترام والتقدير، وقبل غلق باب الانتخابات غير رأيه، وأكد أنه لن يستطيع الخروج من القائمة، وسيترشح على منصب أمين الصندوق”.

واسترسل: “بكل تأكيد (زعلت منه) بسبب تغير موقفه وأبلغته بذلك، ومرتجي تم وعده قبل ذلك بأنه سوف يكون نائبًا للرئيس في الدورة الحالية، وعلى هذا الأساس تمت التهدئة بينه وبين العامري، ولكنه في النهاية أخلف وعده وترشح على نفس المنصب الذي أشغله أنا”.

وأكمل: “طٌلب مني بشكل صريح أن الجلوس مع لجنة الحكماء لإقناعي بعدم خوض الانتخابات، وأحترم هذه اللجنة ويعلمون مدى تقديري لهم، ولكن اتخذت قراري بخوض الانتخابات”.

وأوضح: “خرجت من القائمة ولم يتواصل معي أحد من أجل إبلاغي بذلك، وهذا الأمر كان مفاجئا وغريبًا بالنسبة لي، وفي حالة الفوز بالانتخابات سأكون ملتزمًا بتنفيذ خطة المجلس بالكامل لأن هذا في صالح النادي، ونحن هنا من أجل الأهلي ومصلحته هي مصلحتنا”.

وتابع أمين صندوق الأهلي: “خروجي من قائمة لا يسبب لي أي قلق، لأن أعضاء الجمعية العمومية على قدر كبير من الوعي، وفكرة القائمة مجرد شعار ليس أكثر، وكل المرشحين تواجدوا من أجل خدمة النادي”.

وأشار: “أكبر دليل على ذلك نجاح العامري فاروق مع أنه خاض الانتخابات مستقلًا خلال عام 2009، وذلك على عكس رغبة الحكماء وحسن حمدي رئيس النادي وقتها، ولكن في النهاية فاز ولم تحدث أي أزمات وأكبر دليل أنه تم اختياره بعد ذلك لدورتين كنائب”.

واختتم: “الانتخابات خارج منصب أمانة الصندوق إلى حد ما سهلة، ولكن عمر ربيع ياسين يسير بشكل جيد ويستطيع تقديم (جيم مختلف)، خاصة أنه استطاع جمع 7 آلاف صوت في الانتخابات الماضية، وكان خارج قائمتي طاهر والخطيب، وهذا ما أقوله، إننا قادرين على جمع الأصوات طالما أعضاء الجمعية العمومية مقتنعين بالبرامج والأفكار التي نقدمها”.

Celtic’s defensive record this season, to put it kindly, has been absolutely shocking.

They have already conceded 13 goals in the Scottish Premiership, a tally that eclipses their title rivals Rangers by ten.

Clearly, the reason why they’re so far behind the Gers is sticking out like a sore thumb.

If Neil Lennon can’t find a way to address the defensive issues plaguing his backline then Steven Gerrard’s men will run away with the SPFL title.

Considering Celtic have desires of winning a tenth crown in a row, this has not been the season they wanted.

However, could it have been easier? Quite possibly, but after Nick Hammond’s colossal transfer blunder earlier this year we will never know.

One of the biggest issues in Lennon’s side has been at right-back with Jeremie Frimpong.

The former Manchester City youngster was excellent last season and earned considerable praise, especially from Lennon. “He’s one of the best kids I’ve ever seen,” remarked the Celtic boss in 2019.

Unfortunately, it hasn’t quite happened for Frimpong in 2020/21.

Against Hibernian the 19-year-old was pretty dismal, losing possession 18 times and completing just one tackle. On top of that, he didn’t produce much in the final third, failing to put in a single accurate cross.

Why, therefore, is this relevant to the transfer market? Well, the Hoops were unable to bring in highly-rated teenager Brandon Soppy last January.

French press (via The Sun) linked the right-back with a move to Parkhead but nothing materialised. Since then, Soppy has become not just one of the best young defenders in Europe, but one of the best young players overall.

For 18-year-old’s in Europe’s top five leagues, the Rennes defender was ranked third on WhoScored’s average ratings before the international break.

He has been a consistent figure, producing an unrelenting number of tackles. Soppy has made 2.8 per game this season in Ligue 1, a tally that eclipses Frimpong by 1.8 a match.

On top of that, Soppy is still as much a threat going forward as the current Celtic full-back is, performing at least one successful dribble each outing. Football Talent Scout described the qualities of the teenage sensation, summarising them by saying: “he is extremely dangerous on the counter thanks to his pace and acceleration.”

Soppy is already performing at a particularly high standard in one of the best leagues in Europe and not just have Celtic missed out on one of the continent’s hottest properties, but they have also missed out on the inevitable re-sale value they could have recouped.

This has been a disaster all round, especially when you consider – excuse the pun – Celtic’s soppy defensive record.
