Manchester United have once again been urged to make a move for Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland.

The Red Devils have long been linked with a switch for the sensational Norwegian, with Gazzetta dello Sport recently suggesting that talks between the Old Trafford club and the striker have already taken place.

He seemingly has plenty of suitors heading into the summer transfer window but former United midfielder Paul Scholes has encouraged Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to make a move sooner rather than later, with Haaland being a “perfect choice” for the club.

It’s a statement that is certainly tough to disagree with. Since arriving in Germany from Red Bull Salzburg just under a year-and-a-half ago, the 20-year-old has continued his stunning goalscoring form for Borussia Dortmund.

In 53 appearances for the club, he has plundered an incredible 49 goals in all competitions. That finishing expertise would certainly be welcome at Old Trafford heading into the 2021/22 campaign.

Current Red Devils striker Edinson Cavani could apparently be set to leave the club in the summer, with a move to Boca Juniors being mooted. Having struck nine goals in all competitions so far this season, including two in his last two matches, the Uruguayan would certainly need replacing should he depart.

Meanwhile, Solskjaer’s current alternative options are struggling to find their top form. The currently injured Anthony Martial has scored just four goals in the Premier League this season, whilst Mason Greenwood only has three strikes of his own in the league.

Haaland should certainly rectify all of those problems if he makes the move from Borussia Dortmund. It could then be concluded that he would be the “perfect” signing as suggested by Scholes, and one which Ed Woodward should absolutely consider in the summer transfer window.

Marcel Brands played a blinder selling Kieran Dowell to Norwich City last summer as the Championship side’s promotion may now benefit Everton.

What’s the word?

According to the Liverpool Echo, the Canaries sealing an instant return to the Premier League could see the Toffees land a cash injection.

Dowell left Goodison Park for Carrow Road last July for an undisclosed fee, but the deal struck to sell the 23-year-old is believed to include performance-related add-ons.

Norwich announced in their latest accounts that £6.1m had been spent on the signings of Dowell and Jordan Hugill, plus the season-long loan captures of Oliver Skipp, Xavi Quintilla and Ben Gibson.

A further £4.6m would also be due to the parent and former clubs of the five players stated, dependent on Norwich’s results during their first year back in the Championship.

And the Canaries secured their immediate top-flight return on Saturday after Brentford and Swansea City failed to win their respective games, to leave Watford as the only side who can deny Daniel Farke’s men the title.

Norwich currently hold an eight-point advantage over the Hornets with six games to play, while Swansea sit third a further six points behind.

It remains to be seen how much the Canaries could now owe Everton, with the specific terms of Dowell’s add-on clauses not specified.

A Brands masterclass

Everton’s Director of Football Brands including performance-related clauses in negotiations with Norwich over the transfer of Dowell has seen the Dutchman play a blinder, with the Merseysiders now potentially owed additional funds for a player sold relatively cheaply.

It is likely that the Toffees only made around £1-2m through Dowell’s actual departure, with reports that Norwich paid West Ham up to £5m for Hugill last summer, but there are no guarantees that the Goodison Park outfit would have been able to make anything more.

Dowell left Everton having only played five first-team games in royal blue between his debut in December 2014 under Roberto Martinez and loan spells with Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United, Derby County and Wigan Athletic.

He has since made 22 appearances for Norwich across all competitions, yet has only been a regular starter under Farke in the Championship since March after missing 14 fixtures after sustaining damage to his ankle ligaments in September.

A lengthy injury and struggling to gain consistent minutes ensured Dowell only begun to discover his best form as the season entered the final stretch, which would have left Everton facing letting him leave for free this summer if he were not sold a year ago.

Carlo Ancelotti would not have seen enough from Dowell in his season with Norwich – where Farke has praised his “really special technique” – to warrant another contract, making Brands’ agreement a masterclass in how to secure maximum rewards for a player of limited value.

Peterborough United’s Director of Football Barry Fry has told Football FanCast that Siriki Dembele was disappointed he did not get a move to the Premier League in a recent transfer window and claims he could leave if their asking price is met, amid links with Celtic.

The Scottish giants are said to be interested in a deal to sign the 24-year-old, with GiveMeSport reporting last month that they are tracking the winger.

Dembele has scored 10 goals and provided 12 assists in League One this season and Fry says that he has already attracted plenty of interest.

His brother, Karamoko, plays for Celtic, so the two could link up in Scotland.

Most reportage surrounding Siriki Dembele claims that his contract expires this summer but Fry claims that he has another year, and he has accepted that he may leave the club if a big offer is tabled that meets Peterborough’s asking price.

He told FFC: “We have had a lot of interest in him but again, we’ve kept him, he was not happy about that.

“One club in the Premier League was very active and spoke to his agent like every club does and that got to Siriki and when we couldn’t arrange a fee he sulked a bit, to be fair, but he’s back on track now and he’s got a year left next year so he’s refused to sign a new contract, so there will be people back in, in the summer, for him. If we get what we want then we’ll let him go.”

Fry thinks Dembele is a top talent and believes that he will keep developing and growing at Posh, and has been impressed with his performances.

He added: “Siriki can get the ball in his own half and with dazzling dribbling ability, he can beat four or five players and score a wonder goal or cross it for somebody else to score.

“I think he’s got about 10 this year and he’s got 12 assists. So he’s a big player for us, he’s been injured a little bit and we’ve missed him.

“He’s very, very exciting. He’s got the best stats outside the Premier League, I think. We’ll try to keep hold of him if we go up, and we’ll make him an offer he can refuse! So watch this space.”

Speaking exclusively to the The Transfer Tavern, Frank McAvennie has urged former side West Ham to go out and sign Brentford’s Ivan Toney this summer.

David Moyes’ side are on course to qualify for Europe for the first time in four years, and they still hold a faint hope of finishing in the top four despite successive Premier League defeats against Newcastle United and Chelsea.

However, the Hammers have just one recognised striker in Michail Antonio, who suffers from regular hamstring problems and are yet to replace record signing Sebastien Haller following his January exit.

Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham has been mentioned, as has Arsenal frontman Eddie Nketiah, but Eurosport believe that Toney has also been identified as a potential summer addition for the Hammers.

Toney has enjoyed a dream first campaign in the Championship, scoring 29 goals in 44 appearances to help Brentford reach the play-offs.

When asked about West Ham’s striker situation, McAvennie told The Transfer Tavern:

“I like the boy; he’s destined for big things. I like players that don’t mind doing the hard work.

“A lot of players nowadays are great on the ball, but don’t put a shift in off it. And he does, and I like that, and David Moyes likes that as well. If you’re going to spend money, spend money on him.”
