Southampton have been linked with Giorgos Giakoumakis recently and the Greek striker could add a completely new dimension to Ralph Hasenhuttl’s attack next season, should he make the move to St Mary’s this summer.

The Saints were linked with the VVV Venlo star recently, with TEAMtalk suggesting that the South Coast club, along with Norwich City and Brighton, were keen on bringing him to the Premier League this summer.

The 26-year-old has enjoyed a phenomenal season in the Eredivisie, contributing 26 goals in just 30 appearances in the Dutch top-flight, which has helped him average a superb 7.30 rating from WhoScored.

It is not just his goals that would make him an excellent fit at Southampton however.

While Giakoumakis may only be six foot tall, he has averaged four aerials won per game in the Eredivisie this season, which is more than any Southampton player has managed in the Premier League, with six foot six Jannik Vestergaard’s 3.4 aerials won per game the best of any player in Hasenhuttl’s squad.

Danny Ings and Che Adams, Southampton’s main strike force this season, have managed 0.8 and 1.5 aerials won per game respectively, which suggests that going long isn’t really a viable option for Hasenhuttl at the moment. Meanwhile, Southampton have attempted the third-fewest crosses of any team in the Premier League this season, suggesting that they need a striker who can capitalise from crosses into the box.

Giakoumakis would certainly add that, as he is obviously a threat in the air as well as on the ground, and would surely capitalise from the quality of crosses that James Ward-Prowse can deliver from set-piece situations at Southampton.

Therefore, with recent reports suggesting that the “very special” striker could be prised away from VVV Venlo for less than £10m this summer, Martin Semmens should definitely be looking to bring him to St Mary’s, as he could offer something completely different in Hasenhuttl’s squad.

Em um duelo marcado por homenagens e lembranças ao acidente que vitimou a Chapecoense, o Tricolor paulista conseguiu proporcionar um pouco de alegria ao seu torcedor.

O placar elástico foi construído pelos pés de quatro atacantes. Primeiro, o trio formado por David Neres, Gilberto e Chavez. No primeiro tempo, Neres e Gilberto deram vantagem ao São Paulo. No segundo, Chavez, duas vezes, fez virar festa e, já no fim, Luiz Araújo decretou a goleada.

O São Paulo venceu o jogo com facilidade mesmo com um homem a menos durante todo o segundo tempo. No fim da primeira etapa, Cueva foi expulso após receber o segundo cartão amarelo. كشف جناح الفريق الأول لكرة القدم بنادي ليفربول ومنتخب السنغال، ساديو ماني، عن حلمه القادم بعد تحقيق بطولة كأس أمم إفريقيا على حساب مصر وزميله محمد صلاح، خلال الشهر الماضي.

ونجح ماني في قيادة منتخب بلاده لحصد اللقب القاري للمرة الأولى في تاريخه، عقب تغلب السنغال على مصر في ركلات الجزاء الترجيحية بالمباراة النهائية يوم 6 فبراير.

وأجرى السنغالي حوارًا مع مجلة “فرانس فوتبول” الفرنسية، وقال: “لم أتغير أبدًا، فأنا ساديو ماني، شخص متواضع وبسيط رغم شهرة كرة القدم”.

وتابع: “أحب أسلوب حياة كريستيانو رونالدو ونيمار ولكنها فقط ليست مناسبة لي”.

وعن أهدافه المستقبلية بعد كأس أمم إفريقيا: “لدي شغف وطموح كبيران ما زلت أبحث عما هو جيد وجميل لأحققه، الكرة الذهبية هي بالضرورة جزء من هذه الأشياء”.

وأقر ماني خلال حواره بأنه يحب رؤية جناح باريس سان جيرمان، كيليان مبابي، وتطوره في السنوات الماضية، وقال: “أداؤه مميز، وبالفعل سيسعدني اللعب معه، سنكون مزيجًا رائعًا واستثنائيًا، عليه فقط القدوم إلى ليفربول ومتأكد من أنه سيرغب في ذلك”.

Tottenham Hotspur are still yet to appoint a new manager after parting ways with Jose Mourinho in April but Paul Stewart, who was signed by Spurs as a striker but later reverted to a holding midfielder, has exclusively told The Transfer Tavern that Spurs should look to someone other than Antonio Conte.

Conte has recently just won the Serie A title with Inter Milan, the club’s first league title in 11 years and during his two years in England, he managed to guide Chelsea to a Premier League crown title as well as an FA Cup victory despite the club finishing 10th the season before he took over.

The Italian has been linked with a sensational return to England with Chelsea’s rivals, Spurs, as Daniel Levy continues to whittle down his shortlist of candidates until he finds what he believes to be the perfect manager – reports suggest Levy has been in talks with Conte for the last month.

Despite his links to Chelsea, that would not prove to be a barrier if he did come to Spurs but they should be looking for someone else, that’s according to Stewart, who spoke exclusively to The Transfer Tavern:

“Something wasn’t quite right between him and the players at Chelsea despite winning trophies, but for me, I’d probably look elsewhere and try to rebuild the club.

“They’ve got to bring a manager in that they trust will be able to build over a few years, because Spurs need to look at a different way in which they employ managers because it has to be about bringing players through for the long term.”

Spurs lost the chance to have their Europa League destiny in their own hands following their surprise 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa earlier this week, which saw Sergio Reguilon score a stunning own goal.

Ryan Mason’s side did guarantee a spot in the European Conference League following their 4-2 win against Leicester City on Sunday.

Nottingham Forest have been handed a huge boost to their chances of bringing Joe Pigott to The City Ground this summer.

What’s the talk?

According to a statement posted by AFC Wimbledon on Twitter, the 27-year-old centre-froward will be leaving Plough Lane at the end of his current contract with the League One side, which is set to expire next month.

It has been reported throughout the season that a number of Championship clubs, including Nottingham Forest, have been keeping a very close eye on the situation of Pigott ahead of a potential move in the transfer market.

Hughton will be buzzing

Considering just how impressive Pigott has been for Wimbledon this season, the news the striker will be available on a free transfer this summer will undoubtedly have Chris Hughton buzzing.

Indeed, over the £2.1k-per-week forward’s 45 League One appearances for Mark Robinson’s side this term, he scored 20 goals and registered five assists, as well as taking an average of 3.5 shots and making one key pass per game.

These metrics saw the 27-year-old earn a seasonal WhoScored match rating of 7.20, ranking him as Wimbledon’s best performer in the third tier.

And, with the caveat that the football in League One is not of the same standard as the Championship, when comparing his returns to that of Lewis Grabban and Lyle Taylor, Pigott beats the Nottingham Forest duo hands down.

Over his 28 league appearances, Grabban managed six goals and one assist, in addition to taking an average of 1.8 shots and making 0.8 key passes per game, seeing the 33-year-old earn a seasonal WhoScored match rating of 6.47.

Over Taylor’s 39 Championship fixtures, he scored four goals and provided no assists, as well as taking an average of 1.2 shots and making 0.5 key passes per appearance, receiving a seasonal WhoScored match rating of 6.22.

As such, the Wimbledon man dubbed a “quality” player by Neal Ardley would very much appear to be an upgrade on Hughton’s current options at centre-forward.

And, when adding in the bonus of the 27-year-old being available on a free transfer, a deal for the striker would almost appear too good to be true for Forest this summer.
