Dudnath Ramkessoon has urged the WICB to reconsider the decision to use pink balls in the upcoming first-class season

The West Indies Cricket Board’s decision to experiment with pink balls in the upcoming Regional Four Day competition has met with apprehension from Dudnath Ramkessoon, the chairman of the Trinidad and Tobago senior cricket selection panel. He has urged the WICB to reconsider the move, for the tests conduced so far on the pink balls appear to have yielded unfavourable results.”We have looked at the results of some tests done on the pink balls and whatI can say is that they have not come off too good,” Ramkessoon told . “From the tests they have done in England on the balls, they have been unable to withstand the pressure. What they are saying is that the balls are not up to standard, as they are losing their colour after around nine to 12 overs. The dye used on these balls is not holding up well at all.”Ramkessoon suggested the experiment be delayed until the doubts over the quality of the balls being used were erased. “Our information is that they have since done some more extensive tests on the ball and are trying to improve it. However, I don’t think that using it at this point in time is a wise idea,” he said. “In Australia, Kookaburra has developed a new white ball that can be used for night matches and they are very happy with the results. What they are saying is that the ball is standing up to the rigours of cricket and this in my opinion, this may be the way to go.”The WICB decided to introduce radical innovations to the first-class game, such as day-night fixtures and the use of pink balls, in an attempt to boost spectator interest. Another feature is the hosting of an entire round in one territory to ease the logistical challenges in travelling arrangements.The first round will begin in Jamaica from January 8-11 while the final round will be played at Windwards between February 26 and March 1.

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in a deal to bring Weston McKennie to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the January transfer window.

That’s according to a report by Calciomercato, who claim that the 23-year-old central midfielder is one of Fabio Paratici’s main targets in the upcoming winter market, before going on to state that Juventus are willing to sanction the sale of the central midfielder next month, as long as their asking price of €35m (£30m) is met.

A further report by TuttoJuve even goes as far as to claim that the Tottenham managing director is preparing an offer for the USA international, although this bid is thought to be in the region of €25m (£21m) – someway short of the Serie A side’s valuation of McKennie.

McKennie would transform Conte’s Spurs

Considering the sheer amount of potential McKennie quite clearly possesses, should Paratici be successful in his bid to land the midfielder in January, he would undoubtedly be something of a transformative signing for Antonio Conte’s Spurs side.

Indeed, over his 13 Serie A appearances this season, the £22.5m-rated man has already scored two goals, as well as making an average of 0.9 key passes, 1.1 interceptions, 1.1 tackles, taking 0.9 shots and winning 4.3 duels per game.

These returns have seen the £37k-per-week midfielder average a SofaScore match rating of 6.90, ranking him as Juve’s joint 10th-best performer in the top flight of Italian football.

Aside from his impressive metrics, McKennie’s positional versatility would also appear to make him something of a perfect fit for Conte’s brand of football, with the 23-year-old’s former manager, David Wagner, stating of the American:

“In the No.6 or No.8 position, he has the mentality – a real working mentality that you need. He’s brave on the ball as well. He can be one of the best midfielders in the Bundesliga.”

As such, it is easy to see why Paratici is so keen to secure a deal for the central midfielder who Tab Ramos dubbed a “relentless worker” this January, as, alongside the likes of Oliver Skipp and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the middle of the park, McKennie could help transform Spurs into a Champions League side once again.

Peter Siddle does not believe his heavy workload was responsible for the back injury that will sideline him for at least the next five months. Siddle was initially ruled out for the tour of New Zealand in March but his extended lay-off also means he is unlikely to be available for Australia’s series against Pakistan in England in July.He hopes to start bowling again in three months but will almost certainly have no chance to play elite cricket until the start of the next Australian summer, when he will push for an Ashes recall. Of Australia’s 2009 Ashes attack, Siddle, Ben Hilfenhaus, Brett Lee and Stuart Clark are all on the long-term casualty list but Siddle said his problem was nothing to do with being overworked.”It’s definitely not the workload,” Siddle said. “For me personally I hadn’t played much cricket coming in to the last two years so for me it was more cricket than I’d ever played before but the schedule is no different than it has been over the last five or six years. That’s definitely not a part of it.”I hadn’t played a lot of cricket for Victoria and I got the call-up and it’s been busy but in that time I have had a lot of rest. I came back from South Africa and missed the one-dayers there and missed the one-dayers in Dubai to rest up. I came back from India early as well to rest up in that time so I’ve had plenty of time to rest up and if it’s going to happen it’s going to happen.”Siddle noticed back pain during the one-day series against Pakistan but was able to keep bowling until the discomfort became too much. It was a familiar feeling as he had stress fractures early in his career before his shoulder became the major concern and led to multiple reconstructions.”I had them when I was about 18 or 19,” Siddle said. “At the time it was difficult but it all went well, recovery went well and in the end I was back and playing that following year so it didn’t hold me back at all. In the end I got a lot stronger, a lot fitter and it worked out the best for me.”Since Siddle made his Test debut in India in 2008 only Mitchell Johnson has taken more Test wickets for Australia than Siddle’s 60 at 31.53 and he was named Emerging Player of the Year at the ICC awards last year. He said it was frustrating to be out of action for so long having established himself in the Australian attack but he hoped the lay-off would allow him to come back stronger.”It will give me a bit of time to rest, catch up with friends and family, do some normal things, go watch some AFL and support my team the Roos,” he said. “In the meantime get the body right, get it fully fit and a lot stronger and fitter and hopefully a new and improved body when I come back.”

Everton have been very active already in the winter transfer window, securing the signings of two young defenders, Nathan Patterson and Vitaliy Mykolenko, while Rafa Benitez is rumoured to already have his eye on his third young player to bring into the team.

According to journalist, Pete O’Rourke, Everton are eyeing up a potential move for Nottingham Forest’s James Garner in the January transfer window.

O’Rourke put out a tweet to his followers on Friday morning;

“Everton are eyeing a move for Manchester United midfielder James Garner who has impressed again on loan at Nottingham Forest in the first half of the season. #EFC #MUFC #NFFC”

The £3.6m-rated gem, who was previously hailed as “impressive” by team mate, Fred, is on loan from his parent club, Manchester United, at Nottingham Forest for a second season, and is rumoured to be catching the eye of the Merseyside club thanks to his impressive performances in the Championship, that have helped to put the side just six points shy of a playoff place.

Fans will be buzzing

Adding young prospects to the side is always a move that will leave fans buzzing, especially in this case, when you look at how well Garner is getting on at Forest this season.

The midfielder, who is originally from Birkenhead in Merseyside, has been putting on great performances, scoring five goals and bagging one assist from his central defensive position in the side since he joined on loan just under a year ago.

According to SofaScore, the defensive midfielder has been successful in an impressive 73% of his dribbles and has won a 52% majority of his duels, midfield attributes that could really benefit this defensively poor Everton side.

The Toffees have been leaking goals more than they have been scoring them in the Premier League this season, and adding that extra cover alongside Allan in midfield could really work wonders when attempting to control games better, especially when their current ball possession average is 39.7% and are losing possession of the ball 144.7 times on average per game, both of which are shocking statistics and need improvement.

Everton’s Spanish manager could make a great signing in Garner, especially when you look at his defensive midfield attributes, he could become a great asset for the club, and at just 20 years old, has the potential to grow into a fantastic player with the right guidance.

Flocking to Twitter, Manchester City fans have expressed mixed feelings over an update in the Dusan Vlahovic saga.

A whole host of Premier League clubs are reportedly interested in securing the services of the Serbia international, including the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur. However, it is reported that if Vlahovic were to move to an English side, it would be to either Chelsea or Manchester City.

The 21-year-old has been in breath-taking form this season, scoring 16 goals in 20 league games for Fiorentina, and he has also netted seven times in 14 games for his country.

The 6 foot 3 youngster also bagged 21 Serie A goals last term, seemingly getting stronger with each passing campaign.
