Celtic supporters should ‘love’ the fact that shareholder Dermot Desmond is a lifelong Hoops fan, according to finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley.

The Lowdown: Desmond a lifelong fan

The 71-year-old has been hugely involved at Parkhead since 1995, having also owned part of Manchester United before the Glazer family’s takeover in the 2000s.

Desmond recently stressed that he wouldn’t sell his stake in the club even if he offered ‘three or four times the share price’, such is his love for Celtic.

While billionaires aren’t always universally loved by supporters, Plumley believes the situation is different with Desmond.

Speaking to Football Insider, the ‘finance guru’ stressed that the Irishman’s Celtic roots should be something that supporters admire in their shareholders:

“There are good and bad aspects to this. Most fans would argue that it is a good thing to have a genuine supporter of the club in charge.

“Business investment probably takes on a slightly different form as a fan. But the flip side is that if somebody did offer three or four times the share price, they might have the potential to grow the club even further.

“That is a very hypothetical situation, but you can see the good and bad here. However, in general, most fans would love to keep an owner who is passionate and personally invested in the club.”

The Verdict: Makes a fair point

While Plumley’s comments could be divisive due to Desmond not necessarily always pleasing Celtic supporters, he does make a fair point.

If you know you have a fellow fan in charge high up, it instantly suggests that big decisions made will be in the best interests of the club, rather than by billionaires who care more about their wealth.

The Hoops could certainly have worse majority shareholders than Desmond and it could be a case of only fully appreciating him when he eventually moves on.

It believes that to be the next logical step after his appeal against a punishment imposed on him after the Australia tour earlier this year was referred back to the board. The situation has meant that Younis, statistically one of Pakistan’s most successful Test No. 3 batsmen, has not played a Test since July last year and no ODIs since January this year.Typically, however, it is not clear whether Younis has received any such notice. “As far as we are aware, nothing has been received by Younis or myself,” Ahmed Qayyum, Younis’ lawyer, told ESPNcricinfo. Younis is currently in Lahore, and will be at the Gaddafi Stadium – which is where the PCB is headquartered – to play for his regional side in the domestic Twenty20 tournament, which starts on Sunday.It is not yet clear if this latest action indicates the board’s willingness to try and bring Younis back into the national side. If he doesn’t contact the board, he is likely to be served a fresh show-cause notice, asking him to address the charges laid against him. Ataque: Se Dudu for poupado, Keno é quem deve ficar com sua vaga. Como Deyverson está machucado, há boas chances de Willian seguir entre os titulares, mas para jogar como centroavante na vaga de Borja. Outra alternativa seria utilizar um dos garotos que estão inscritos na lista da base: Papagaio, que é centroavante de origem, e Fernando, que costuma jogar mais pelo lado, são as opções. Tottenham Hotspur are interested in a deal to bring Christian Eriksen back to north London in the summer transfer window.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a claim made by Fabrizio Romano, with the Italian journalist and transfer insider revealing in a recent episode of the Here We Go podcast that, despite there currently being no talks between the 30-year-old and Tottenham, a move for the midfielder is something Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici will consider at the end of the season.

Speaking about Spurs’ links with the Denmark international: “The answer I’m always receiving on Eriksen’s side is: ‘He’s not deciding in April, he’s not deciding in May. He wants to wait until the end of the season to meet with Brentford and speak with them – as a matter of respect – and then he will make a decision on his future.’

“But we have rumours of Tottenham because of Antonio Conte. The relationship with Conte was terrible two years ago and then it changed, it completely changed in the second half of the last season with Inter Milan. So, this is why we have rumours. It is not something close, but it is something Tottenham could consider after the meeting with Brentford.”

Conte would love him

While it is true that, following his £24.3m move to Inter back in January 2020, Eriksen initially struggled for game time under the 52-year-old manager, the Dane eventually worked his way into the Italian’s starting XI, before becoming a key player for the Nerazzurri last season.

Indeed, over his 27 Serie A appearances last time out, the £13.5m-rated midfield maestro highly impressed in Inter’s title-winning campaign, scoring three goals and creating two big chances for his teammates, as well as taking an average of 1.2 shots and making 1.2 key passes per game.

These returns saw the £23k-per-week playmaker average a very respectable SofaScore match rating of 7.02, ranking him as Conte’s 11th-best player in the Italian top-flight.

This is form that the 111-time capped international has continued following his switch to Brentford in the January transfer window, with the player who Thomas Frank dubbed “world-class” very much proving he is still exactly as his manager claims.

Indeed, over his six Premier League fixtures for the Bees, the 30-year-old has already bagged one goal, provided two assists and created three big chances for his teammates, as well as made an average of 1.8 key passes and taken 1.7 shots per game.

These returns have seen the Dane average a quite extraordinary SofaScore match rating of 7.47, not only ranking him as Brentford’s best performer in the league but also as the fourth-best player in the division as a whole.

As such, Romano’s claim that Tottenham will consider a move to bring Eriksen back to north London this summer is hardly surprising, as it is clear that the midfielder is a player Conte would love to have in his side next season.

After beating Queensland on Friday, the visitors were hoping for some more fine-tuning but the covers stayed on and the contest was called off without a ball being bowled.Any practice was limited to the SCG’s indoor nets and Muttiah Muralitharan and Kumar Sangakkara both had a light session. The tourists play New South Wales in a Twenty20 fixture on Wednesday before facing the Australians in a T20 international in Perth on Sunday. The three-match one-day series begins in Melbourne on November 3.

That’s according to a report by The Scottish Sun, who claim that, with Ange Postecoglou targeting the signing of a new left-back ahead of Celtic’s 2022/23 campaign, the 26-year-old is set to be jettisoned by the Greek-Australian coach come the end of the season.

A report by the same publication earlier this month revealed that, following the termination of his loan deal with Russian side FC Ufa, the former Belgium youth international had not rejoined the 56-year-old’s first-team squad at Lennoxtown, and was instead training by himself in his native country.

Bolingoli must go

Considering the complete disaster Bolingoli’s £3m signing has proven to be for Celtic, it would appear an extremely wise move for Postecoglou to do everything in his power to move the left-back on this summer – even if it means paying the defender off for the remainder of his current contract at Parkhead, which is set to expire in May of 2023.

Indeed, despite having spent the best part of three years as a Celtic player, the £1.35m-rated Belgian has featured in a total of just 31 fixtures for the Hoops, having only made two appearances following the arrival of the Bhoys’ current manager.

And, when taking into account the fact that the former Rapid Vienna full-back is reported to be earning a substantial £15.5k-per-week at Celtic Park – more than the likes of Reo Hatate, Liel Abada and Tom Rogic – it is clear for all to see that the annual £750k salary of the player who Michael Stewart dubbed “disgraceful” could be put to much better use by Postecoglou in the upcoming transfer market.

As such, it would indeed appear as if the club must do everything they possibly can to rid themselves of Bolingoli this summer, something which, following the latest reports, it appears as if the 56-year-old Bhoys boss is preparing to do – something that will undoubtedly come as music to the ears of the Parkhead faithful.
